Just a little Chat From Alice—I gave Bobby the month off

What a different world we are in right now. Stay at home are you kidding me. Both of us have done really good with the whole
thing. As so many of you we have done one project to another. If it wasn’t for the stay at home rule we wouldn’t have gotte n
them done. I think everyone has been painting, construction work, cleaning closets and let’s not forget lot’s of cooking. When
you get up in the morning you start thinking what can I cook today that is different. I have cooked more desserts in the past
month then I’ve cooked in years.

I did ask that everyone please forward a short write up on what you been doing at this time, I did have a few to response.
Hope you enjoy reading about what they have been doing.

I have heard from some members, most have been painting. For us we have been painting, cleaning out
barns and etc. For Bobby he’s had some work to do on equipment. I been so bored I painted everything
in the yard, one day I painted my cements rooster a bright yellow, at least it will make you smile.
Cleaned closets one day but where can you take the stuff? Everything is closed. We had planned on
hiring someone to paint the carport but decided to do it ourselves, We had someone that was coming to
repair the deck but Bobby did it. We installed some vinyl rails on the back porch no more painting. We
forgot how much work we use to do for ourselves. As I said cooking is the big thing, we were eating out
at the meetings at least 2 nights a week, we have only gone and picked up something 2 times. We can
tell a difference in the money in our pockets. Can’t go anywhere to spend it. It has been a bad situation
but some good has come out of it all families are spending more time together. We have enjoyed our time at home. But back
to the cooking, how many ways can you cook a poor chicken, there is a cookbook 101 ways to cook hamburger, we should
have gotten us one.

Who can figure out the deal with the toilet paper and paper towels? I know some people were buying it for resale, I hope tha t
they can’t find anyone to buy it and get struck with it. Of course, we all want to have enough until this is over; before they
started putting a limit on it people would come out with 7 or 8 big packs. Really? Now it’s meat, the other day Food Loin had
next to nothing in the meat line, it’s bad when you can’t even find a bag of dry lima beans. If things opens back up within the
next month the grocery store will be hurting because everyone has stocked up enough for several months, I can’t say we
haven’t stocked up on some stuff. Bobby wanted to make sure he had coffee and I was worried about tea and sugar, I
remember my mama talking about the depression and not having sugar. But she made it through all of that and I don’t think
she ever forgot the hard times. I feel that some of this will stay with us all.

I know that you have heard that Wings Over the Smokies is still going to happen if anyway possible. Glenn and Joy are going
have to wait a few more months to make a decision. Of course, the sell of goldwing tickets has stopped, for those that had
purchased tickets they will be rolled over into 2021 drawing, by not having meetings and not been able to get out there was not
a way you could sell any tickets. At this time they plan to still give away a trailer and the seat. You’re heard lets get back to
the basics well this may be the year. A lot of people go to Wings to see their friends that they only see once a year and r ide
the beautiful mountains. As long as we have a meeting place everything will be good.

A lot of chapters have had to cancel their fundraiser for the O’Berry Center, Tom is working with Pat at the center to try to
come up with what we can do and how can we help on a must smaller scale. I don’t think anyone wants to see this go away.
As Tom has information we will pass it on to you. Chapter D’s fundraiser is in June at this point it’s still on but we don’t know.
For most of us the O’Berry is the beginning of the Holiday Season for us. Such a rewarding day.

We will not have a meeting in May, we sure hope that by June we can get back on track. But it’s a wait and see game.
Our sunshine lady better have lots of candy when we do have a meeting. She will have at least 3 months of birthdays and
anniversaries.

All we can say at this point is to just hang on and things will get better. We are all in this together. - Alice

Let’s see what been going on with David and Barbara Jones. This has been an experience I will never forget. I played my last
Gig 1 month ago today Mar 14th. Then the stay at home suggestion clubs and restaurants close, Pool closed, theaters closed.
Old reruns on TV. I think I’ve watched every episode of Gunsmoke, and now working on The Virginian. Barbara on the other
hand has me working in the yard on warm days which is a good thing, keeps me away from the Fridge. This puzzles helped on
rain day. I remember when I was a kid my grandmother and I would set and put these puzzles together for hours. I even tried
my hand at baking cookies, turned out good I think. Provisions are a different story. I went to Sam’s Club on the first day of
senior shopping and was there 10 min early and there was a line wrapped around the building to the back and then back to
the front. Got most of what I needed and everyone was pleasant and practice social distancing. But I have found a new friend
Foodlion to go. Place my order online and drive up and they put it in the car for you don’t even have to get out. Here are some
pictures of our accomplishments.
P.S. I forgot to mention, Me and my son snuck in and 110 mile ride one day when it was nice but we didn’t stop anywhere

If I had put that

puzzle together I
would have needed
that bottle.

Thanks David and

Barbara for sharing

If you get bored here something for you— Have fun hope to see everyone in June
Gerald and Sandra Jones has really been busy: Since you have to stay home and the weather has been nice it been a great
time to get some jobs around the house done. Here a few of the things they have been doing

I am cleaning out the bedroom that use to be Gerald’s son’s room. Planning on painting, ripping up carpet, and putting down
wood floors. Right now all 3 projects are going on at the same time. It is a mess on the homestead ❤️

And another project is trimming trees of dead branches, and cleaning up the mess.
Gerald and I planted our straw Bale garden yesterday, cabbage, squash, cucumbers, sweet peppers, and tomatoes. Now to let
the soaker hose and time work their magic so we can reap the harvest

Chicken coop almost ready for Big Red and his harem of 5 hens

Here is Otis, our Great Pyrenees who protects the goats. However, we have to keep chickens in a coop or neighbors may make
chicken pastry out of them. (Scratching up everything they plant).

Thanks Sandra for sharing all you work that you

have been doing.

Poor Gerald

Chicken anyone? I know everyone has heard about the chicken trucks going around to different areas.
Bobby and I decided that we would go, We went to Kinston left home at 7 got there close to 8 and got in
line, the line was so long and got longer as the day went by. They were to start selling at 9 but it was
closer to 8, the line move fast they had their act together. Pull up place your order, they take your money
and load you car, you never get out. We had our chicken and was back on the road a little before 9. We
got 3 cases, one for Betty Lou, one for Allison and one for us. That was a lot of chicken to wrap and get put in the freeze. I
don’t know what they feed those chickens but they were more like small turkeys. I cooked some last night. I fixed Southern
Fried Chicken which I hadn’t done in so many years that I wasn’t sure I remember how to make gravy, but it turned out great.
If you have any good chicken recipes please share. When they do away with the shut down and the restaurants open back up
we will still be at home eating chicken. But it’s all good.

Who’s ready to see the barber and beauty shops to open back up??????????? I’ve already called and told
the lady that cuts mine to just set me up anytime or any day I will be there. I’m sure a lot of people are so
ready to have the nails done. The haircut would make me feel better
Self-Isolation Quarantine Diary - Will we know how Gene Donovan is handling things. (I agree with most of them)
Number 15 is right on

Day 1 – I Can Do This!! Got enough food and wine to last a month!

Day 2 – Opening my 8th bottle of Wine. I fear wine supplies might not last!

Day 3 – Strawberries: Some have 210 seeds, some have 235 seeds. Who Knew??

Day 4 – 8:00pm. Removed my Day Pajamas and put on my Night Pajamas.

Day 5 – Today, I tried to make Hand Sanitizer. It came out as Jello Shots!!

Day 6 – I get to take the Garbage out. I’m So excited, I can’t decide what to wear.

Day 7 – Laughing way too much at my own jokes!!

Day 8 – Went to a new restaurant called “The Kitchen”. You have to gather all the ingredients and make your own meal. I
have No clue how this place is still in business.

Day 9 – I put liquor bottles in every room. Tonight, I’m getting all dressed up and going Bar hopping.

Day 10 – Struck up a conversation with a Spider today. Seems nice. He’s a Web Designer.

Day 11 – Isolation is hard. I swear my fridge just said, “What the hell do you want now?”

Day 12 – I realized why dogs get so excited about something moving outside, going for walks or car rides. I think I just
barked at a squirrel.

Day 13 – If you keep a glass of wine in each hand, you can’t accidentally touch your face.

Day 14 – Watched the birds fight over a worm. The Cardinals lead the Blue Jays 3–1.

Day 15 – Anybody else feel like they’ve cooked dinner about 395 times this month?

Easter was very different for us all this year; I didn’t cook that huge meal.
We’ve had drive-in church for the past three weeks; our parking lot was packed today, with people coming out of their
homes ... sitting in chairs, in their backyards, hearing Pastor Mike deliver the Good News.
I woke up this morning feeling safer, knowing the tomb was empty and like Jesus said .. I’ll never leave or forsake you.
Our world has changed greatly, people are helping one another. The earth is breathing less pollution; families are back
having meals together again and actually talking .. listening to one another.
Many positive things, yep ... all spring cleaning done here.
Austin has gotten ALL the shelves in his train building up, & engines, cars, tenders, etc unpacked.
Our pool is open, but boy is it cold yet .. as I type this, we’re all waiting for this next storm to come in tonight. Praying that it
will leave us all safe. Peggy & Austin Gauthier

Lake of Lakes: Can you believe after more than a 100 years being on their packet they are having
to remove the Indian lady.

In 1939, the background was changed slightly but Mia stayed relatively the same. In the 1950's,
however, Native American artist Patrick DesJarlait was asked to redesign the famous Land O'Lakes
logo. Yet, some people today still have problems with the way Land O'Lakes portrays Native American
imagery.
