CATALINA: Which are the challenges of teachers nowadays and in the future?

DARWIN: School retention is a problem that affects the educational process in Colombia.

BORIS: One of the challenges of teachers is to keep the students in the classroom to culminate
their studies.

ANGEL: The teacher must have some qualities which may help teacher to full fill those challenges.

CONVERSATION:

TEACHER: good morning students

STUDENTS: good morning teacher

TEACHER: Caracol, did you do the homework? (Strong voice tone)

CARACOL: (He doesn’t speak, he starts to cry)

TEACHER: answer, don’t you see that I am talking you? I’m your teacher. (stronger and aggressive
voice)

CARACOL: (He teacher answer and begins to cry)

BUFON: Teacher, don’t you see that he is crying? Don’t you see how he is? Why don’t you ask him
what’s going on? Why don’t you ask what’s wrong with him? (He stands up).

GACELA: why don’t you change your attitude with us, teacher? You should understand that
sometimes we and teachers have problems that affect everybody in other activities, don’t we?
(Conciliatory voice)

BUFON: yes teacher, you can see that the partner may have a problem. With all the respect that
you deserve he doesn’t want to continue studying and he’s thinking of dropping out school.
Nobody knows what he’s going to do to salve his problem.

CARACOL: teacher, the problem is that we don’t have enough money for food, not even for my
school. Yesterday you gave us homework in order to research on internet, but w don’t have
internet at home and I didn’t have money to do it. For this reason I’m this way. I think we will not
be able to continue studying, but I don’t want to drop my school. (Crying and increasingly calm)

TEACHER: the idea is that you keep studying don’t stop, don’t drop out school continue training so
that in the future you can help your parents financially. I’m gonna change myself. I promise I’m no
gonna be rude anymore, so it can help you to participate more in class. Now, we are going to make
a round table and we discuss a topic related to the next class and so we participate actively. (Listen
carefully and shown calmer)

CARACOL: hey teacher. It is so good you had changed your attitude. Now I’m feeling more
motivated and I want to keep studying and make my dreams come true.
