investigate the process of photosynthesis in presence of starch (carbohydrates) in the
green plants leaves as a result of photosynthesis

Student’s Outcome:
1. Through discussion in class, students can explain the understanding of the
process of photosynthesis precisely
2. Through discussion in class, students can complete the chemical reaction of the
photosynthesis process precisely
3. Through observation, students can check the presence of starch (carbohydrates)
in the leaves as a result of photosynthesis appropriately

ILUSTRATION

Plants including living things that are able to

cook their own food (autotroph). Plants make their
own food directly from organic compounds. This
process is known as photosynthesis.
The process of photosynthesis in green plants
requires sunlight energy, carbon dioxide, water, and
other nutrients to be converted into chemical energy
in the form of glucose and oxygen. Then, how do you
test that glucose is the result of photosynthesis?

To find out the

answer, let's do

To support your observations,

prepare the following tools and
materials!
Tools Quantity
Scissor 1 item
Pipette 1 item
Paper Clips 2 items
Beaker Glass 1 item
Reaction Tube 1 item
Bunsen 1 item
Tripod 1 item
Forceps 1 item
Petri Dish 1 item

Materials Quantity
Leafy Plants 2
Alumunium foil 2 sheets
Alcohol 25 ml
Water 50 ml
Iodin 5 ml
Can you determine the
variables in your
experiment?

Definiton Operational:_____________________________________________________
2. Manipulation Variable :___________________________________________________
Definiton Operational:_____________________________________________________
3. Respons Variable :_____________________________________________________
Definiton Operational:_____________________________________________________

REMEMBER!
Control Variables are variables that are controlled or made
constant
Variable Manipulation (free) is a variable that defines all of
your treatment of the experiment that can trigger a change
The response / bound variable is a variable that defines all the
things that happen if you take action on the experiment

Now, do your experiment by paying attention to the following steps!

PROCEDURES:

1. Cut alumunium foil with a length of 10 cm and a width of 1 cm

2. Cover one of the middle leaf surfaces with carbon paper that has been
cut
3. Clip the two ends of carbon paper by using the paper clip
4. Place the green plants in a place with good sunlight intensity
5. Leave for 2 days
6. Pick the leaf and then open the carbon paper
7. Enter the water into the beaker glass then heat
8. Soak the leaves in boiling water for 1 minute
9. Lift and put into a test tube that has been filled with alcohol
10. Place the test tube in a beaker glass filled with boiling water
11. Wait until the chlorophyll leaves dissolve in water
12. Drain the leaves, then rinse with running water
13. Brush the entire surface of the leaf with iodine solution
14. Observe the color changes that occur
Write the results of your experiment in table
