Andy Hughes has influence my decision to have a very narrow depth of field so the audience

to shoot from a very low viewpoint try and add composition to the image through using

would like the litter to look big/

I am going to try and portray a negative

This image is of a McDonald’s take away bag. The brown bag is misshapen and
crinkled therefore the audience can only see some of the text on the bag. The
bag is lying on a concrete floor which the audience can see because the details

are very clear. In the background of the image the audience can vaguely see part
of a building and some trees however they are very out of focus. I took this
image from a very low viewpoint - my camera was almost touching the floor and
pointing towards the bag. This image is large, rectangular and landscape. The
size of the image allows the audience to be able to see the full bag in the image.
I chose to keep the image in colour because I think that the colours in the image
helps the audience to establish the pieces of litter. I enhanced the images on
Photoshop through increasing the contrast and vibrance. This makes the
colours more striking and therefore the image is more visually appealing. If the
colours weren’t vibrant then the image would be quite boring as it is very
simplistic. The details within this image are very crisp - I used a fast shutter
speed to achieve this. This image has a very narrow depth of field which means
that the audience just focus on the litter. This helps to convey the meaning
because it think that it shows litter to be consuming a certain area. This image
lacks composition because the rule of thirds can’t be applied and there are no
leading lines. I think that the bag being slightly off centre make this image more
interesting to look at. This image is very similar to Andy Hughes style of
photography because he makes the litter within the images look big through
using a low viewpoint.

This image is similar to the previous image because it is of the same subject
however it is take from a different viewpoint. I have taken this image from a low
viewpoint however it is higher than the previous image. To take the image I have
pointed the camera towards the top of the bag which means the audience can see
of the bag including more of the text from the bag. The audience can only see the
concrete floor in this image which means that the audience don’t gain an
understanding of where the image was taken. This image is large, landscape and
rectangular. Similarly to the previous image I chose to keep the image in colour
because I think that the colours in the image helps the audience to establish the
pieces of litter. I enhanced the images on Photoshop through increasing the
contrast and vibrance. This makes the colours more striking and therefore the
image is more visually appealing. I used a fast shutter speed in this image because
I wanted the image to crips so the audience can see the details within the image
very clearly. If the image was blurred the audience wouldn’t would get the same
understanding of the item of litter. This image has a more narrow depth of field
compared to the previous image because the viewpoint means only the bag and
the concrete are in the image. This image also has no composition because the
rule of thirds can’t be applied and there are no learning lines in the image. I think
that this image is more effective at conveying the meaning behind the shoot
compared to the previous image in this shoot because it is even more focused and
the audience get a bettie understanding of what the litter is like. This image is
inspired by Andy Hughes because it just focuses on the litter however the
viewpoint isn’t typical of Hughes style but the colour is.
This image a large, rectangular, landscape image which is inviting for the
audience to look at. This image is of a tissue that is scrumpled up on the
concrete floor. The audience can’t see much of concrete in this image compared
to the two previous images in this shoot as the tissue takes up the majority of the

image. The audience can clearly see the details within the tissue in the image
because it is so close to the lens of the camera. The tissues is relatively quite
clean suggesting it has recently been littered. This image is taken from a very low
viewpoint - I knelt my camera on the floor therefore the background of the image
is completely out of focus. This image in colour however there are no bright
colours in this image which means it isn’t as visually appealing as the first two
images in this shoot. I used a digital camera to take this image because I was
experimenting with viewpoint therefore I think using a digital camera is safer
option because you can see what you are doing. The details within this image are
crisp for example the crinkles within the tissues are prominent. This image has a
very narrow depth of field which means that the details within the tissue are very
clear and the audience can’t see much of the background. The image lack
compositor because the rule of thirds can’t be applied and there are no leading
lines. The lack of composition and structure could reflect the how out of control
the litter problem is. I think that this image successfully conveys the meaning that
negative thing because the image is taken up with solely litter. This image is very
similar to Andy Hughes style of photography because he uses low viewpoints
however his images tend to have more colour.

This image is similar to the previous image because the subjects are similar. This
image is taken of a white paper bag from Pret. The white bag doesn’t look like a
white bag because it is misshapen - it looks like the tissue in the previous image.
The audience can see more of the background in this image for example the
yellow line in the right of the image, part of the building and some of the sky line
however it is out of focus. This image is large, landscape and rectangular which is
inviting for the audience to look at. Like all the other images in this shoot this
image is in colour which I enhanced on photoshop because I wanted them to be
more vibrant. The colours make the image more visually appealing. I used a fast
shutter speed to take this image because I wanted the details within this image to
be crisp. The crisp details within this image help the audience to understand what
the subject is - this helps to convey the meaning behind the shoot. This image has
a narrow depth of field however it is deeper than the previous image. This means
that there is more context in the image which helps the audience to understand
that the subject is litter. There is some composition within this image because the
bottom of the paper bag falls on the bottom horizontal line which means that bag
is the most important subject in the image. There are no leading lines within the
image. I think that this image successfully portrays litter in a negative way
because it doesn’t look visually appealing. I think that image is similar to Andy
Hughes style of photography because the litter is large/ exaggerated within the
image, the colours in the image are vibrant and I used a low viewpoint to take the
image.
This image is of a cardboard takeaway drinks holder upside down on a concrete
road. It is placed in the centre of the image. In the background of this image the
audience can see parts of the road for example the metal railing in the right of the
image and some of the sky and trees. The background of the image is very out of
focus because the litter is the main focus in the image. This image is large,
landscape and rectangular. Like all the other images in this shoot this image is in
colour - I enhanced the colours in Photoshop through increasing the vibrance and
contrast in the image. The colours in the image make the image more interesting
because the subject itself is quite boring. The tones within this image are grey
which I think makes the image less visually appealing. If the image has brighter
colour the the image which be similar to Andy Hughes style of photography. The
details within this image crisp which allows the audience to establish which type of
litter is in this image. I achieved the crispness through using a fast shutter speed.
This image has a narrow depth of field however compared to the other images in
this shoot it is fairly wide. The depth of field allows the audience to understand that
the I am shooting litter rather than random items. This image doesn’t have any
composition because the rule of thirds can’t be applied and there are no leading
lines. The lack of composition makes the image unstructured which makes the
image less appealing to look at. I think that this image is very similar to Andy
Hughes style of photography because of the low viewpoint and the effect this has
on the size of the litter.

This image is of a Wine Gums wrapper which is lying on the concrete floor. The
wrapper is slightly curved therefore it is elevated off the floor. The wrapper is
also off centre. To take this image I rested my camera on the floor and pointed
the lens towards the litter. The viewpoint means that the audience can’t see
the the detail on the wrapper however they can see the shape of it clearly. The
audience can see a lot of the background in this image for example some of
the building and the outline of the road. This image is large, landscape and
rectangular. I kept the image in colour because I wanted the audience to see
the red wrapper. I think the bright colour makes the image more interesting - I
like how it contrasts the grey toned background. I enhanced the colours in
Photoshop through increasing the contrast and vibrance. The details within the
image are crisp because I used a fast shutter speed. Having crisp details in the
image helps the audience to establish what the subject is of. This image has a
narrow depth of field because there is only the wrapper that is focus in the
image. The depth of field does allows the audience to see some of the
background therefore the audience can focus on the litter whilst understanding
that it is a littered item. This image lack composition because the rule of thirds
can’t be applied and there are no leading lines. This image is fairly similar to
Andy Hughes style of photography because of the viewpoint and the subject
of the image however Andy Hughes litter tends to stand alone/ be bigger.
C O N TA C T S H E E T
In this shoot I think I successfully negatively portrayed litter through exaggerating

the size of it through experimenting with perceptive. In the image the audience see

various different types of litter for example the cardboard drinks holder, the plastic

wrapper and paper bags. The various types of litter shown in this shoot give the

audience to impression that it is a big issue. The litter in these images are typical

littered items that the audience would usually see therefore shooting these items

from a different perspective allows the audience to see things different. The

viewpoint of this shoot successfully makes the seem larger and therefore a bigger

problem. Exaggerating the size of the litter shocks the audience which will hopefully

make them realise that littering is a big problem and prevent them from littering in

the future.

All of the images in this shoot are in colour which I think makes the images more

visually appealing. As well as this it helps the litter to stand out more especially

litter with vibrant colours. The aim of this shoot was to make the litter stand out so

having the images in colour helps to do this. Shooting using a digital camera

allowed me to edit the images after in photoshop. In some of the image l took out

elements, such as leaves, that posed as a distraction from the main subject. l used

a fast shutter speed in order to capture the details within the litter. Using a narrow

depth of depth of field allowed the audience to be able to just focus on the litter

this helped to convey the message behind the shoot. The images in this shoot

lacked composition because of the depth of field there were no leading line and

the rule of thirds can't be applied.

My favourite thing about this shoot is the unique perceptive because I think that it

presents the litter in an interesting way. I think I want to continue looking at litter

from unique perspective to see the effect that this has on the audience. I like the

different shapes that are created through the different types of litter. I want to

continue looking at more typical items of litter on their own like in this shoot

however to convey the meaning more effectively I am going to shoot litter in areas

that are nicer to look at to shock the audience more like Andy Hughes who shoots

along coast lines.

Andy Hughes has influenced this shoot because he made me want to shoot from a

low perspective. I like the vibrant colours in this shoot which were also inspired by

him.
