What do you mean by Research?

Definition

Research is a careful and detailed study into a specific problem, concern, or issue using the
scientific method. It's the adult form of the science fair projects back in elementary school, where
you try and learn something by performing an experiment. This is best accomplished by turning
the issue into a question, with the intent of the research to answer the question.
Having a question creates an internal state of 'I need to know something. This internal state of
wanting something is like having a hankering for apple pie. Since you are reading this in a
psychology section, we will put a psychological slant on this, and hopefully lose some of the
baking metaphors.

Significance of Research

The main importance is to produce knowledge that can be applied outside a research setting.
Research also forms the foundation of program development and policies everywhere around the
universe. It also solves particular existing problems of concern. Research is important because
we are able to learn more about things, people, and events. In doing research, we are able to
make smart decisions.
Marketing research is an important part of any business because it allows consumers and
producers to become more familiar with the products, goods, and services around them. It is
important to society because it allows us to discover more and more that might make our lives
easier, more comfortable and safer.
It presents more information for the investigation. This allows for improvements based on
greater information and study. It is very important. It encourages interdisciplinary approaches to
find a solution to problems and to make new discoveries. It is a basic ingredient for development
and therefore serves as a means for rapid economic development.
The main importance is as follows:
1. It provides the basis for government policies
2. It Helps in solving various operational and planning problems of business and industry
3. Research helps in problem-solving
4. It is useful to students, professionals, philosophers, literary men, analysts, and
intellectuals.
Distinguish between Research methods and Research methodology?

Research Method
1. Research methods are the methods used by researchers to collect data to conduct research
on a particular research topic.
2. The objective of the research method is to find the solution.
3. Research methods are useful to apply during the latter stage of the research process.
4. Research methods are small part of research methodology
5. Research methods consist of various techniques where various studies and experiments
are used to conduct research and reach an appropriate conclusion
6. Research methods consist of different investigation techniques.
7. Research method encompasses of carrying out an experiment, survey, test and so on.

Research Methodology
1. A Research methodology is systematic approach to solve the research problem and to
reach a new conclusion.
2. The objective of the research methodology is to determine the solution by applying
correct procedures of research.
3. Research methodologies are applied in the initial stage of the research being conducted.
4. A Research methodology is a multi-dimensional concept.
5. Research methodologies are used applied during the initial stage of the research to
explain the purpose of chosen methods and how they will serve its function.
6. Research methodologies is a systematic strategy to achieve the decided objective.
7. Research methodology encompasses different techniques which are used during the
performance of the experiment, surveys, and test, etc.

Conclusion
A research methodology is concerned with the systematic approach to solving a research
problem by applying appropriate research methods. A clear research methodology is important
for the consistency and accuracy of the outcome produced by the research methods.
Research methods are a small part of the whole research methodology process. Research
methods are used to find a solution to the research problem. Research methods are the primary
course to conduct research, and research methodology is all about the utilization of research
methods.
In the end, we can say that both research methods and methodologies are an important part of
research and important for each other’s existence.
