FUNCTIONS: Students will consolidate their previous knowledge regarding the form of present
continuous and domestic animals
Students will exercise their skill of reading and interpreting a text.

 Communicative aims:
 Talking about farm animals
 Telling what the animals are doing

LESSON AIMS:
• To introduce vocabulary related to farm animals
• To practice the present continuous
• To encourage speaking and comprehension skills

OBJECTIVES: by the end of the lesson the Ss will be able to:

 To name the animals;


 To say what the animals are doing;
 To use the new vocabulary in speaking and writing.

LANGUAGE/SKILLS TAUGHT (during the lesson):

ASSUMPTIONS: -students should know vocabulary related to farm animals
-they have some familiarity with the present continuous tense

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:


- students may have difficulty understanding some words, expressions.
Solution: teacher will dramatize and mime size
- students may have difficulty to remember all vocabulary and sequencing.
Solution: each child will receive word cards and pictures

ACTIVITY 1: WARM UP
OBJECTIVE: To be prepared for the lesson
To create a free and relaxed atmosphere for the English class.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
After greeting pupils, the teacher and students sing the Hello friends song. The teacher asks about
the weather.

ACTIVITY 2: Checking homework and previous knowledge

OBJECTIVE: To check their knowledge about the learnt topic

The teacher places a picture of a farm on the white board. Ss have to answer some questions

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
T places a teaching board representing a farm on the white board. Ss have to choose some
animals, name them and answer the question: Where is the animal and what is it doing?
T asks Ss to sing the song Old Mc Donald has a farm.
T. writes the title of the lesson on the board and the students in their notebooks.

ACTIVITY 4: Pre-reading

OBJECTIVE: to introduce new vocabulary

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
T gives Ss some pictures to introduce new vocabulary. They have to glue the pictures in their
notebook and to write the words next to them. ( roof, rooster, shepherd, castle, pond, yard)

ACTIVITY 5: While-reading

OBJECTIVE: to allow Ss to practice their reading comprehension skills.

TEACHING TECHNIQUE: reading aloud, silent reading, learning together

CLASS ORGANISATION: T- Ss, pair work

DIDACTIC STRATEGY: Learning by doing/exercising

SKILLS INVOLVED: reading, listening, speaking


EVALUATION:Systematic observation

MATERIALS: Ss’book
DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY: . Teacher plays the CD with the lesson’s reading. Students
have to answer the questions:
What is the cat doing? The cat is....
What are the ducks doing? The ducks are...
What is the rooster doing? The rooster is...
What are the geese doing? The geese are...
If the students are not able to answer only after listening, they will read the text.
The text is read by Ss in a dramatized way.
Ss are paired. Teacher gives each student a handout with two exercises. They have to match the
animals with their actions and to look at the image and write what the animals are doing, using
Present Continuous. (Anexa 2)
