Rooster

1. Rooster is a kind of a bird. A rooster is a male chicken. Hen how a female chicken is
called.
2. They differ from hens by their striking plumage, by their long flowing tails, and bright
feathers.
3. Comb is the red fleshy mass on top of the rooster´s head. Compared with hens, those of
roosters are bigger.
4. Wattles are the red fleshy mass that hangs from the chin. This is also bigger in roosters
compared to hens.
5. A young male chicken, if less than 1 year old is called a cockerels. Rooster is used to
call adult male chicken. Some countries use the term cock for male rooster.
6. Roosters can live up to 15 years.
7. Roosters can mate with other hens to produce eggs. Roosters a good in guarding its
territory where he lives with other hens.

10. Roosters are omnivores meaning they can eat both meat and vegetations. They can eat
worms, insects, snails and slugs as well as grains, seeds and fruits.
11. Most roosters can be taken cared off at home or a poultry. They prefer warm classmates
thus can be found in almost all continents except the very cold Antartica.
12. Roosters are generally more aggressive since they are meant to be protective of hens.
They do not attack when they do not feel threatened.
13. A capon is also a rooster. However, a procedure is done to remove a part of its male
organ. This causes changes in its growth and makes the behavior less aggressive and
active.
14. Roosters or cocks can fight with each other. This is why cockfighting is held by its
breeders. These cocks that are used in competitions are especially trained to have
increased stamina and strength.

however, this is outlawed as making animals fight with each other is animal cruelty.

19. Roosters show their dominance meaning they are the boss of a territory by doing the
cockerel waltz. A rooster will strut in half circle, a wing extended downward. The hens
show recognition of this by moving away from the rooster.
20. Aside from humans, there are animal predators who eat roosters such as snakes,
hawks, skunks, foxes and raccoons.
21. Rooster comes from the word ¨roosting¨ which is an act which they perch high up while
sleeping.
22. Roosters, being a chicken has meat that can be eaten. Compared however to hens, the
meat is tougher and harder to chew.
