ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Graduates receive a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in
Health and Human Performance (HHP) with a
P-12 teacher certification available. Students
may also pursue a minor in Dance, Health
Studies, or Health Teaching.
OPPORTUNITIES & INTERNSHIPS
• Certifications are offered in Teaching, First
Aid, CPR, and Water Safety Instruction.
Certain courses, such as Scuba Diving, offer
more specialized certifications allowing
students to pursue a broad range of work,
professional development and internship
opportunities.
• The Seabury Center is Berea College’s
central athletic and recreational facility,
which includes a full-length pool, weight-
room, cardio room, racquetball courts,
athletic training center, indoor and outdoor
track, a 2,000-seat basketball arena, and
a secondary gymnasium. HHP students
often hold class and work positions at the
Seabury center, especially those with a
focus in athletic training.
• In coordination with the Danish Gymnas-
tics & Sports Association (DGI), students
have the opportunity to study abroad in
Denmark with a focus on Danish style
gymnastics and movements, folk dancing,

leadership, exchange programs, and other
sports.
• Students lead multiple recreation
organizations on campus. Intramural
Sports aims to increase student health,
involvement, and overall fun through sport
and community building activities. Outdoor
Recreation promotes enjoyment of the
outdoors through community and hands on
wilderness education.
