Good Practices of a Mechanical Engineer

1. A mechanical engineer value creation machines. They take responsibility for the
outcome of the project.
2. A mechanical engineers are proactive communicators. They seek out constructive
criticism of their designs.
3. A mechanical engineers are mindful of their strengths and weakness. They accept and
trust the product team’s vision and ability to understand the market, product, and
competition.
4. A mechanical engineers are always learning. They lift the skills and expertise of those
around them.
5. A mechanical engineers have pleasant demeanor because they understand that getting
things done doesn’t always mean only doing things you are most interested in.
6. They anticipate product flaws and build real solutions.
7. A mechanical engineers speak up when they are stuck.
8. A mechanical engineers are both empathetic and assertive, not passive or aggressive in
how they get their ideas across.
9. A mechanical engineers lead without titles.
10. A mechanical engineers learn from their mistakes so that they can avoid it in the future.

Mal Practices of a Mechanical Engineer

1. A bad mechanical engineer put problems to someone else. They always seem to find the
shortest path to being stuck.
2. A bad mechanical engineer hide their mistakes.
3. They believe that they are the smartest person in the room.
4. A bad mechanical engineers are putting out fires all day. They cannot overcome
obstacles in the implementation of their features.
5. They do not seek to understand the constraints that they are working within.
6. A bad mechanical engineer are slow to turn around work that does not stimulate their
own personal tastes.
7. A bad mechanical engineers assert themselves outside of areas of their areas of
expertise.
8. A bad mechanical engineers wait for someone else to come in and tell them what they
need to learn.
9. They have lots of excuses.
10. When bad mechanical engineer fails, they point out that they predicted they would fail.

3. A mechanical engineers understand that others will have to read, update, and maintain
their code in the future.
4. A mechanical engineers spend time to understand the tools that they use.
5. A mechanical engineers understand that mistakes are inevitable but still aim to
minimize the amount of mistakes they make.
6. A mechanical engineers know how to balance conflicting objectives while still managing
their time well.
7. A mechanical engineers communicate and coordinate with their team for a variety of
reasons, such as parallelize task, to reduce blocking others from doing their work, and to
avoid duplicate or unnecessary work.

possible.

Mal Practices of a Mechanical Engineers

1. A bad mechanical engineers fail to apply what they’ve learned to future work, leading to
problems, bugs, or wasted time.
2. A bad mechanical engineers are unaware of what their teammates are doing, which can
cause inefficiency.
3. A bad mechanical engineers communicate poorly because they are unclear or imprecise
about what they want or need.
4. A bad mechanical engineers waste their time by spending too long being lost or stuck.
5. A bad mechanical engineers focus on what they have done.
6. They are quick to tell you how they would do it.
7. A bad mechanical engineers are too lazy to do their work.
8. A bad mechanical engineers always stick to their opinions.
9. A bad mechanical engineers hide their mistakes.
10. A bad mechanical engineers push back on work that they view as beneath team.
