Summary

For a tour guide it is essential to learn how to plan a tour and make an action plan, in order to
establish a path-to-follow and help our work-team to follow a guide when we are about to
guide a group. When a foreign visitor pays for a tourism service, the customer needs to be
sure that the time and money will be well invested. Arranging a schedule will give certainty to
the customer, and will give you the control of almost everything during the tour. In other
words when we make an action plan, its easier to realize what things we will need that
includes equipment and materials. We cal also know how many people we are going to
need, that includes number of support guides, and when things should be done.
By this evidence we are going to learn new vocabulary about equipment for outdoor activities,
and how to use it in different environments. We are also going to learn how to arrange and
execute an action and a contingency plan.
we are going to learn about verbs in past and present progressive which are important tenses
when we are getting new skills to improve our speaking and listening.

Tour – Five Cultural Spots in Armenia. Let’s begin our tour :
Armenia is the capital of Quindio Department . It is one of the main centers of the national
economy and of the Colombian Coffee Growing axis. Armenia is well- known today for its
coffee and flowers and has been recognized as a very influential city in South America
because of flowers and coffee. It is located in the most important coffee region of Colombia.
Armenia is located in the heart of the coffee area and with an extension of 250 km2, it is the
center of all the commercial and tourist activity that is generated in the environment.
The coffee is more than a product here, is an issue that involves a whole culture around it
and in a way this attitude motivates its people to have a better city
The organization of the streets, parks, buildings, commerce and specially the kindness of the
citizen are unique in the Country. The ability of the community, their strength and above all
their love for this land allowed them to preserve this beautiful area of the country throughout
history.
Armenia is nowadays the result of a common effort by authorities and people to make the
place a friendly city with identity and a sense of belonging. This is evident by the cultural
heritage, the architectural attractions and the all tradition behind the coffee
The weather is really cool and calm most of the time, with temperatures between 21 and 16
degrees. Two rainy seasons are identified from March to May and from September to
November; while January, February, June and July are the most sunny months, when the
temperature sometimes rises above 24oC
By the strength of the citizen and the growth of the city, the politician and poet Payanés
Guillermo Valencia Castillo called Armenia the miracle city. A name that describes the magic
of this beautiful land.
Now let’s see more about the History of Armenia
After the plundering of the treasures and the extermination of the ancient Quimbaya tribe
through the Spanish colonization , a new time began when the rise of antioquean
colonization came to the region. Those travelers had already founded villages like Salento,
before being here. One of those visionaries was Jesús María Ocampo, also known as
"Tigrero" due to his love of hunting jaguars, known locally as tigers. He paid one hundred
pesos in gold coins to Antonio Herrera, a farmer who had a big extension of the land around.
The idea was to build a Fonda, or a trade center, not only for himself but also for other
colonists who came from Salento, Antioquia, Manizales, and areas surrounding the Quindío
River and La Vieja River.
These new residents through the leading of Jesús María Ocampo formalized the creation of
the new town on 14th October 1889, approved by the Council of Salento in August 15th
1890. The city was going to be called Villa Holguín, in honor to the Colombian president of
that time, Carlos Holguín Mallarino. However, the proposal was rejected, and the name
Armenia was considered and approved in November 30th 1889. Experts believe that the city
was renamed in honor to the people who were murdered by the Turkish Ottomans in the
Armenian massacres / western Asia between 1894 and 1897.
Now Its time to describe you some of the landmarks of Armenia Quindio- The miracle

Heritage by the National Council of Monuments in 1989. The place is no longer a train
station, but its a public library . The Old train Station is one of the most symbolic

Caicedonia . This old church has been a place connected to the religious activities and to

evangelism there. In 1902 it was officially accepted as the vice- parish church of” La
Inmaculada”.
In 1906 the construction of the New church made with bahareque began. The building was
completed in 1927. Three years earlier, in July, 4 th 1924, it was established by official decree
as a parish church , by Monsignor Tiberio de Jesús Salazar Herrera. Its first parish priest was

The sculpture highlights the establishment of the city and the Antioquian colonization that
made it possible. This monument is inspired by the painting Horizons - Horizontes - designed
by the Antioquian artist Francisco Antonio Caro. His work is represented by two farmers who
point to unknown land in the horizon, where they hope to colonize. The sculpture represents
the strong confidence and will of these first inhabitants who arrived to this land to start new
lives with their families, searching for news options of survival and getting away from the
civil wars that affected the north of the country during the 19th century.
