A POST CARD FROM: OCAÑA, COLOMBIA!...

Dear friends,

Right now I am living in ocaña, which is a city of north Santander. First of all, in this city,
we can enjoy many celebrations like the carnival at the beginning of January, accompanied
by goto rum, the celebration day of the Virgin of Carmen on the 16th of July. visit tourist
sites such as virgin water, storages and other important places in the city.

The image that you appreciate, you can first see the beautiful church of the town is located
in the main square of the town, and the monument of the column of freedom of slaves, this
commemorates the abolition of slavery in the country, and finally He made his inauguration
on December 22, 1851, these two places are highly respected.

Founded in 1570 by Captain Francisco Fernández de Contreras, Ocaña enjoys an important


prestige in the history of Colombia.

It is known as the city of los Caro, a city that has great historical, cultural and landscape
richness. Its nature, its people, its history and the spectacular climate make it an attractive
place to visit. Ocaña was one of the main provinces during the time of the colony and
played a very important role in the political life of the country.

Among the typical dishes are the arepa ocañera (especially with cheese), and corn, tamale
and consevas (sweet papaya, made especially at Christmas). As the arepa, daily food of the
ocañera table, made with piled corn. Ocaña's typical product is ocañaras onions. The most
representative fruit of this region is known as "cocota" and its harvest occurs in the month
of August.

Ocaña was influenced by many cultures, that's why there are a lot of typical foods from
other cultures that have taken root in the region over time.
