Describe the Comprehensive Advantage and Disadvantages of Different Typed of Training Methods

Lecture Method:
The lecture method is one of the most basic and oldest training method. Many educational research shows
that, only knowledge can be transferred through lecture method. The use of the lecture method depends on
the
- Subject matter
- Philosophy of instructor
- Training center facility &
- the overall training situation
the scope of the participation by the participants in lecture method is very rear. It’s a non-participatory
method.

Objectives:

To cover the large number of participants


To maintain the time constrain
To provide explanation and analysis of any cognitive level of subject matter

Are of use:
To gain idea about any specific matter
To give comments to solve any problem
To share the experience
To explain the preliminary and detailed concept of any subject matter
To some extent, to motivate the participants by explain example

Advantage:
It involves low cost and less time in delivering the information
Increase and decrease of the number of participants does not affect the methods
Maximum information is in a minimum time
Effective for top level participations
Can be used with other methods
Disadvantage:
It is a one way communication
It is trainer-centered
Less effective
Less participation
Monotonous
Group Discussion Method

Group discussion is a verbal exchange of idea, points of view, subject matter and perception for the
purpose of clarifying or enriching, understanding thorough a discussion.

It’s of two types:

i. Structured discussion and


ii. Unstructured discussion

Objective:

To share perception and experience among the participants


To generate new ideas
To build up cohesiveness among the participates
Area of use
To identify critical problem
To involve all the participants
To solve the problems

Advantage:
Provides every trainee the opportunity to participate
Highly stimulating and motivating when properly planned and organized
Keens learners interested and involved
Learning resource can be discovered and shared
It enhance the confidence level of participants
It’s a creative method for discovering ideas

Disadvantages:

Time consuming
Can be turned into endless debate unless properly organize
A few participants may dominate the discussion
Can be derailed form the main topic

Case Study Method

During a case study, trainees are given information about a situation and are directed to come to a decision
or solve the problem concerning the given situation; case study usually is related to real life situation.

Case study has three main elements

 Case report
 Case analysis and
 Case discussion
Objectives:
To crate environment and given opportunity to the participants to:

Identify the problem,


Analysis the problem,
Solve the problem

In their real life situation

Are of Uses:
this method is exclusively under enhance the manual and technical skills to
Identify the problem ,
Root case analysis of the problem
solve the problem and take decision from the problem

Advantage:

Its makes the participants more active


It increase the analytical ability of participants
It increase the independency of participants
Its increase the dimensional thinking of the participants regarding any problem
It enhance the creativity of participants in an any critical situation

Disadvantage:
Time consuming
Some participates and some do not
It requires many experienced trainer due its instinctual nature
Participants may be influenced by the culture, values and ethical of the trainer.

Role Play Method

Role play is a process to deliver the learning matter to the participant’s through spontaneous or structured
acting of a situation or incident. Trainees as if they are involve in a real life situation through this method.
It’s of two types
--structured role playing and
--Spontaneous role playing

Objectives:

To enlarge the mentality of the participates


To enhance practical skill and experience
To change in behavior
To increase insights and sensation of the participants
To create a learning environment in the light of real life incidents of the society.
Area of use:

To solve the problem by stimulating the psychological and emotional intelligence of the
participates
To shake the affective level of the participants
Advantages:
Participatory way to learn
It helps to realize the reality in working life
It changes the attitude level of the participants
Its provides an understanding of others emotions and behaviors

Disadvantages
Time and cost consuming
Requires very efficient trainer
May be viewed as a game not a learning process to the participants unless well organized

Why Participatory Methods are Preferred in a Training Session Disuses:

Trainer performs the participatory method due to following reason

i) It provides opportunity every trainee to participate actively


ii) Highly stimulating and motivation
iii) Learners resources can be discovered and shared
iv) It enhance the confidence level of participants
v) It increase the analytic abilities of the participants
vi) It enhance the practical skills and experience of the participants
