Clutch vibrations on vehicles with fully automatic

Opticruise

Background
On vehicles with an automatic clutch, there has
been an increasing amount of instances of
clutch vibrations since 2012. Clutch vibrations
are oscillations in the powertrain due to torque
variations occurring during clutch control, i.e.
when the clutch is slipping.

Clutch vibrations can be felt as jolts in the axial

direction, and they can also cause vertical or lat-
eral vibrations in cab and body structures.

Clutch vibrations make it difficult to apply cor-

rect clutch control. For trucks, this is noticeable
mainly when shunting, connecting a trailer or
reversing towards a loading platform. For buses,
it becomes difficult to pull away gently when
driving forwards or reversing. This often gets
worse when there is a gradient on the road.

Factors which greatly affect vibrations in a Sca-

nia clutch system have been identified. They are
the flatness and the evenness of the opposing
surfaces in clutch disc and clutch cover. Even-
ness of rigidity and spring constant in the axial
direction across the entire surface of the clutch
also have an impact.

Service solution
The production solution introduced in previous
issues has solved most instances of the clutch
vibration problem, but certain cases have been
reported where the problem is still there.

If there are still problems with clutch vibrations,

both before and after the production solution,
change to the clutch cover and clutch disc listed
in Parts below.

Parts
Note:
Vehicles with clutch disc K432 59 or K432 66
are not covered by this service solution. If
clutch vibrations occur with these clutches, it is
important to report the problem. Only renew
with the same part which was fitted in produc-
tion, see below.
