1. Introduce the person. Discuss what led him or her to become an advocate.

One of the people who I have been really inspired by and who continued to raise her
voice against inequality is Susan B. Anthony who was a social activist and an icon for the
early female rights movement. She grew up considering the fact that slavery was not
right and she distributed anti-slavery petitions as a young child and teenager. She was
born in Quaker family, who raised their voice for social equality issues in the society.
Anthony embarked her career of social activism with determination and utmost energy.
She schooled herself in reform issues and found herself to be attracted towards radical
ideas of the people like William Garrison and Elizabeth Stanton. It was due time that she
began to dress into controversial Bloomer dress which consisted of pantaloons that
were worn under a knee-length dress.

2. Discuss which of the sociological views (i.e., conflict, interactionism, or functionalism)

help explain the type of inequality being addressed by the advocate.

Anthony was a femininist theorist and she at a very early age taught people about
equality. The role of her parents modeled this idea when they educated Susan as the
public education was unavailable to her because she was a woman. Since the Quaker
family was quite influential she lived her life fighting for the fair and just treatment of
the citizens, most significantly, the African Americans and women as a suffragist.

3. Did his or her advocacy invoke a change and/or influence others? Discuss why or why
not.

Her advocacy did bring some radical changes and influenced others. For example, her
anti-slavery efforts did help to bring change and helped in the abolishment of the
slavery in the United States. Anthony is considered to be among the top leaders who
continue to fight for the American Equal Rights Association. She founded the successful
National Woman Suffrage Association and led the women suffrage movement during
the early phase of it.

4. What lessons do you believe we can take away from this person and apply today?

I believe that good education, strong family background, and understanding of the social
needs can help people more to raise their voice against the inequalities and sufferings in
the society.
