’Getting Going with Autograph’ Activity

‘Object Selection’ – two points

* Important! - This activity requires selection of more than one object.

This can be achieved by holding the ‘Shift’ key whilst selecting objects or (better!) . . .

Use Whiteboard Mode which enables ‘multiple selection’ but take care to start by
clicking in an ‘empty’ space on the graph to ensure no objects are selected initially!

Open a 2D Graph page (Standard Level)

Enter coordinates at (2 , 4) and (-1 , 3)

Select both points (see above) *

Use the ‘Object Menu’ to add the following:
Mid-Point
Ratio (use 1:n)
Circle (the centre of which is the second
point selected!)

Use the ‘Constant Controller’ to change

the value of n to 2 as shown opposite

Remove the objects added above and then ‘Select’ both points as before.
Use the ‘Object Menu’ to add the following: Create Vector; Straight Line; Line Segment;
Gradient; Perpendicular Bisector . . . some of which are shown below.

Note that by ‘selecting’ a single object (such as the vector in the first diagram below)
and then using ‘Text Box’ it is possible to show a ‘Dynamic’ text box that is updated as one
of the initial points is moved. Experiment with changing the frame and/or font in the text
box – particularly if projecting these images in the classroom!

Note: when two ‘objects’ overlap such as the

vector and straight line shown a useful tip is
to ‘click’ until both objects are selected (they
change colour to black) and then click on the
line to de-select it. This should leave only the
vector selected – click here for this file
