SHARED VALUES

STUDENTS’ EDUCATION COMES FIRST

At LA IMMACULDA CONCEPCION SCHOOL, our students are taught that each person has an

important part in the community. Each individual is to be respected, no matter his or her

station in life. We teach them the value of hard work and to take pride in the fruits of their

labors. We believe that education is not just what a student learns from books but also from

what the child experiences through site visits and practical exercises.

Most of all to our PARENTS who help and provide me with everything especially in

City General Hospital, without her I could not have gotten such relevant and significant

idea.

II. INTRODUCTION

As someone who will be dreaming to take Biology as her course for college, the

institution that I wat to be a part of for our work immersion is a hospital. I was glad that

one of my classmates to join them to apply for a position in Mission Hospital, a hospital

that is near to our apartment. I knew that commute won’t be as difficult as the commute I

take everyday on my way to school. Mission Hospital has been the one that’s been taking

care of me and my mother’s health because once or twice in a year, we would go there for

treatment because it’s the nearest hospital. So I thought that working for an institution

that has helped me and my family to recover from sicknesses and prevent other factors

that put our health at risk would be a nice gesture too.

Our HR assistant, Ma’am Thesa Montesa conducted a seminar for us before starting

our work immersion. She talked about the rules, our schedules, the departments

available, what we should wear and mannerisms. She gave us a tour around the building

where she explained that Mission Hospital is divided into two buildings, the main building

called Mission Hospital where patients are admitted, get laboratory tests, get their

medical records and the second one which is called Mission Medical Plaza, where people

get check-ups, physical therapy and even a salon. She helped us familiarize ourselves with

the building and where each department are.

I was supposed to volunteer for the Pharmacy department but the slots were

already taken, so I went with my alternative choice which is the Medical Records

department. I’ve always liked when it comes to organizing files, that’s why I went for that

department.

IV. OBSERVATIONS IN THE COMPANY

Mission Hospital is not really that big,

The strength and challenges of this company, since it is a public hospital that is

under the system of government, we were really able to see the politics that occurs even

inside the department. And somehow at some point there are practices that makes feud

between departments, every time the other ward falls short of their duty.

But still there are good practices inside the company, like how pleasant every staff

that works there towards the patients and how they address every situation that they

encounter with the patients. Every staff is hardworking and family-oriented. I can really see

the integrity they apply in every aspect, especially when it comes with holding the finances

given by the Pasig City Hall.

My over-all observation in (PCGH) is how they are attentive all the time, their good

attitude and pleasant tone they render to the patients, the dedication together with hard

work that they carry out to their task and the professionalism they apply in every aspect of

their priorities in their work.

V. PERIODIC REPORTS (Daily and Weekly)

8
What we do daily are the following:

Going to the hospital at or before 8am is a must, after doing so we put our time cards

in the body clock to time in and log in at the entrance of the hospital.

We assist the HR assistant to distribute lab results to every employee that they need for

their medical clearance.

We are given charts and ECGs from patients who were admitted to the hospital. We

organize them by searching for their case numbers to know which folder they belong.

In organizing documents of the patients, there are instances that the folders in the

shelves are incomplete; when encountering such event we will list all the missing

folders and also do an inventory check to identify other missing folders too.

We’re the ones who encode the names of the patients (including when they were

admitted to the hospital and when they were discharged) who are requesting their

Philhealth documents and their medical abstracts. We do this with the use of

Microsoft Excel.

Our lunch break starts at 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

Our shift ends at 5:00 PM, when it’s already time, we inform our supervisor and

proceed to exit our department, timing out and logging out before going home

9
WORK IMMERSION PORTFOLIO

What we do weekly are the following:

The hospital always conducts a flag ceremony ever Monday, including the OJT

students. After the flag ceremony, we’d always have a Zumba session lead by one of

the staff to start the morning well.

Our HR would always give us tasks where we will assist her in organizing each

employee’s documents. We also help her out by distributing documents that need to

be signed by the employees.

We are tasked to organize the ECGs of every patients that they served in folders. We

organize them by looking at its case number and search through the shelves for its

corresponding folder. They also ask us to find the case numbers of unnumbered ECGs

by the use of Microsoft Excel to help us in sorting them; This method also helps us to

determine which patients has been admitted and those who hasn’t

VII. SELF-ASSESSMENT

A. Skills and Current technology learned/enforced:

The machine that automatically delivers the tube to every ward is called Aerocom.

The refrigerator where the medical ice and the medicines that need a cold storage are

placed; it is a more advanced and high-tech type of a refrigerator.

B. Equipment, Tools, Testing apparatus handled (Software’s used included)

I experienced handling the syringe with or without needle, and we organized it, I also

handled the solvent for dextrose and injection.

We were given the private codes in the hospital when we are asked to go in an

Authorized Personnel room.

C. Strong points versus Weak Points

12
In my own experience, as someone who experience OJT for the first time, the strong

points would be the eagerness to accomplish every task, and the diligent to volunteer

to help in all aspect of work so that all task given will be finished. And for the weak

points, it would be the anxiousness to fail the certain task that was given to me, most

especially in times of unfamiliarity and unpreparedness. The pressure we

experienced to deliver the medicines in time despite of receiving too many

prescriptions at the same time.

D. Best experiences on the job

For me the best experience is every time we are asked to go in an Authorized

Personnel room, because we are given the private codes that will enable the doors to

open.

For me, every time we encounter a dead body that is being delivered in the Morgue,

there’s also this one time where the dead body being delivered goes with us in a

service elevator.

Also, I was inspired to continue to pursue medicine for college because we were able

to have interactions with patients.

We have gathered different advice from the pharmacist we’ve worked with about the

anticipated task we would encounter during the journey of pursuing medicine.

And lastly, when we are asked to prepare the medicines that are stated in the drug

prescription that came from the doctors. I got familiarized with the most frequent

medicines needed in each ward; I also love pronouncing the complicated names and

terms of the medicines.
