SHARED VALUES

STUDENTS’ EDUCATION COMES FIRST

At LA IMMACULDA CONCEPCION SCHOOL, our students are taught that each person has an

important part in the community. Each individual is to be respected, no matter his or her

station in life. We teach them the value of hard work and to take pride in the fruits of their

labors. We believe that education is not just what a student learns from books but also from

what the child experiences through site visits and practical exercises.

to my classmate Andreia Lipana person who initiated to help me fix the documents

needed to get inside the Pasig City General Hospital, without her I could not have

gotten such relevant and significant idea.

II. INTRODUCTION

First of all, before I tackle more about my experience in PCGH, I was looking

for other companies that gives allowance, my motif is after allowance and not for a

good work immersion experience, not until I already had no choices left, and that’s

when I also got connected to PCGH, the hospital where I was born. I was impressed

by the improvement of the well-ventilated structures, facilities, and equipment of

the hospital.

Ms. Anna Liza Lipana, the Assistant Chief in the Hospital, who made it very

easy for us to start immediately in our work immersion. Every worker there

pleasantly and warmly welcomed us. We were able to tour the hospital and get

familiarize with every ward before each of my classmates and I go to our respective

ward and duties.

And so when I got into my first day, at first I was nervous and excited at the

same time, and I never really thought that my task there would be that amazing, We

felt that our presence in the Pharmacy ward is very much needed. So I got

familiarized with a lot of medicines, I had the chance to encounter patients and dead

people, I was their run-errand when they need papers to be signed up by the

Director of the hospital, and especially when preparing medicines that will be given

to the patients.

IV. OBSERVATIONS IN THE COMPANY

What I have observed at Pasig City General Hospital, first is that when

situations get rough, especially when there’s too many patients, everything easily

gets out of control and it becomes a cram and disorganized, and that makes every

pharmacist get upset about the toxic work of their day.

The strength and challenges of this company, since it is a public hospital that

is under the system of government, we were really able to see the politics that

occurs even inside the department. And somehow at some point there are practices

that makes feud between departments, every time the other ward falls short of their

duty.

But still there are good practices inside the company, like how pleasant every

staff that works there towards the patients and how they address every situation

that they encounter with the patients. Every staff is hardworking and family-

oriented. I can really see the integrity they apply in every aspect, especially when it

comes with holding the finances given by the Pasig City Hall.

My over-all observation in (PCGH) is how they are attentive all the time, their

good attitude and pleasant tone they render to the patients, the dedication together

with hard work that they carry out to their task and the professionalism they apply

in every aspect of their priorities in their work.

V. PERIODIC REPORTS (Daily and Weekly)

What we do daily are the following:

After we arrive in the hospital (8:00 AM sharp) we go straight ahead to HR

and log in.

When a certain medicine is not available in the Pharmacy of PCGH, we are the

run-errand of the Pharmacist for buying medicines on the Pharmacies

outside Pasig City General Hospital.

We are the ones who prepare the medicines that are stated on the

prescription that comes from every ward in the hospital.

Ones the right medicines are already prepared, it is carefully placed in a tube,

there’s a special machine where we will enter the code and then it will

automatically deliver the tube to its respective ward.

There’s an instance where we personally deliver the medicines to a certain

ward, especially when Emergency Room (ER) is the ward that needs it.

9
WORK IMMERSION PORTFOLIO

We’re the ones who display and quantify the medicines. We arrange every

medicine alphabetically and by 10.

Our lunch break starts at 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.

When the clock drops at 5:00 PM we will inform our supervisors that it’s

already time out then we go to the HR to log out.

What we do weekly are the following:

Every Monday, all the staff of PCGH will have a flag ceremony, and there’s

this one time that Pharmacy Ward are the ones who will lead it, and I lead

the prayer and I sang LupangHinirang.

We are asked to go to the Director’s Office every time there’s a document that

needs to be received and signed; I always came across the secretary first

before going to the Director’s office.

We are also asked to go to the Product and Supply Resources (PSR) every

time we need to replenish and load medicines in the Pharmacy.

VII. SELF-ASSESSMENT

A. Skills and Current technology learned/enforced:

The machine that automatically delivers the tube to every ward is called

Aerocom.

The refrigerator where the medical ice and the medicines that need a cold

storage are placed; it is a more advanced and high-tech type of a

refrigerator.

B. Equipment, Tools, Testing apparatus handled (Software’s used included)

I experienced handling the syringe with or without needle, and we

organized it, I also handled the solvent for dextrose and injection.

We were given the private codes in the hospital when we are asked to go

in an Authorized Personnel room.

12
WORK IMMERSION PORTFOLIO

C. Strong points versus Weak Points

In my own experience, as someone who experience OJT for the first time,

the strong points would be the eagerness to accomplish every task, and

the diligent to volunteer to help in all aspect of work so that all task given

will be finished. And for the weak points, it would be the anxiousness to

fail the certain task that was given to me, most especially in times of

unfamiliarity and unpreparedness. The pressure we experienced to

deliver the medicines in time despite of receiving too many prescriptions

at the same time.

D. Best experiences on the job

For me the best experience is every time we are asked to go in an

Authorized Personnel room, because we are given the private codes that

will enable the doors to open.

For me, every time we encounter a dead body that is being delivered in

the Morgue, there’s also this one time where the dead body being

delivered goes with us in a service elevator.

Also, I was inspired to continue to pursue medicine for college because

we were able to have interactions with patients.

13
WORK IMMERSION PORTFOLIO
We have gathered different advice from the pharmacist we’ve worked

with about the anticipated task we would encounter during the journey of

pursuing medicine.

And lastly, when we are asked to prepare the medicines that are stated in

the drug prescription that came from the doctors. I got familiarized with

the most frequent medicines needed in each ward; I also love

pronouncing the complicated names and terms of the medicines.

E. Evidence of Background preparation:

Faults committed (its causes and suggestion given by the supervisor)
