St. Paul, Apostle of Christ follows the story of Saul of Tarsus. Christians were suffering
in the hands of Rome under the rule of Emperor Nero. He was imprisoned because he was
accused of burning the city of Rome alongside the Christians. Fellow Christians, who escaped
from the tortures of Rome to a hidden place, were worried for him. Luke, wanted his story to be
read by many generations to come. He sneaked in and out of the prison, smuggling tools, which
caught the suspicion of Mauritius Gallas. Paul told his story to Luke and gave wisdom such as
how only love triumphs evil. Meanwhile, the community had a growing conflict on whether to
stay in Rome, or to leave.
Mauritius himself had a conflict within his family; with their daughter being sick.
Mauritius, from the advice of his friend, attempted to seize these smuggled documents to try to
put the blame on Paul and earn the respect of Nero but found nothing. Paul also told Luke how
his ways of killing Christians were changed when he saw a light, Jesus, was blinded, then healed.
He also tells of the visions and dreams he gets of the faces that he had killed.
When Cassius, in rage of the killings, ignored Aquillas and Priscilla’s advice of peace
with Romans and invaded the prison. Luke and Paul refused their rescue saying that Christ has
already won on the cross. This angered Mauritius and Luke was thrown into one of the members
of the game when he insulted the ways of Rome using the name of Mauritius’ daughter. Luke
comforted those with him awaiting for tomorrow by saying that the pain will only be for a
moment then they’ll be home, and prayer.
When Mauritius saw that her daughter had little hope, he trusted Luke with her
daughter’s life; so Luke trusted Mauritius with the lives of the people that he will see in the place
Luke has sent him to. In gratefulness, Mauritius let Luke go and had one final chat with Paul.
Paul wished him that he will soon see how Christ completely loves and Mauritius left in awe.
Paul and Luke had their final walk and Paul said that to live is Christ and to die is gain. The
people were able to use the hidden passage to escape Rome and Paul was persecuted. Paul joins
the people he had seen from his visions and they all walk happily with Christ.

In St. Paul, Apostle of Christ, we see how the apostles have put everything on the line for
Christ. They put their lives at risk to proclaim the good news of God. They preach Christ as a
means of salvation. Paul has said that evil can be only overcome with good and that love is the
only way - love that suffers long, does not dishonor, that is not proud. After all the torture he
received, his words to Mauritius were his hopes of him fully knowing Christ and the love that he
gives. This had shown the difficult experiences and humble beginnings that Chrisitianity had in
following the teachings of Christ. Although this movie had shown a story of Paul, it must not be
seen as the complete truth. Clearly, it is only a secondary source and Paul’s life has been told for
generations. It may have gotten farther from the truth with each time it is told.
