“The Little Prince” Book Review

“Le Petit Prince” or “The Little Prince” was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a

French poet, aristocrat, journalist, and pioneering aviator. This book was first published

in 1943 and was translated by different authors such as Richard Howard, Dom Marcos

Barbosa, and Melina Karakosta. Due to its interesting lines and significant lessons, “The

Little Prince” is the most translated book in the French language. It is a story of a little

boy who leaves his own planet and travel the universe wherein he learns behavior of

adults through the different bizarre encounters.

This book starts with a stranded pilot who encounters a young prince who travels

from one planet to another in search of knowledge. What is interesting about this book

is that at first glance you will think that this book is for children but when you start

reading on the first few pages you will realize that some lines have deep meanings. The

language used was poetic and symbolic. It discusses scenes that can be applied in

reality. For example, when the Little Prince drew a boa constrictor and showed it to the

adults. In this case, the masterpiece of the young boy was viewed in different

perspectives – that of the child and of the adult.

In addition, there were different lines which expressed significant lessons not

just for adults but for the people in general. When the King in the story said, "it is much

more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others and if you succeed in judging

yourself rightly, then you are indeed a man of true wisdom ", these lines caught my

attention as a reader. It is actually difficult to judge yourself than to judge others. In

fact, we sometimes rely on the judgement of others to assess our capability. Another is

from the Little Prince, “but the eyes are blind and one must look with the heart…the

thing that is important is the thing that is not seen. . . " In life, one should seek for

something that his or her heart desires. Likewise in love, one should appreciate things

that cannot be seen such as the personality of the person.

Overall, this book presents ideas on how the adults view the world and it will

make you think about it. The story involves scenes about love, friendship and things

that can be connected to reality. It is interesting in a way that you should read between

the lines to discover the deep meaning of words. If you wish to travel with the Little

Prince and discover the mystery, you should read it now.
