Lesson -1 The Stone Age -a Wandering Life (Page no- 11,12)

In this lesson we are going to learn about the old and the middle stone ages.
How the hunter gatherers made tools out of stones. They made tools by hitting
one stone with the other until it had a sharp edge. Slowly the tools became
sharper and better. They made tools like needles from the bones or of the
antlers of deer. They used tools for hunting, fishing, cutting meat, cleaning
animal skins, digging and sewing. This period was also called as the Stone Age
because many stone tools have been found in this period. It had three phases
depending on the types of tool they used.
1. Paleolithic Age or Old Stone Age- Stone tools, bone and wooden tools were
used
2. Mesolithic Age or Middle Age- Small sharp tools that could be fitted onto
wooden arrows or spears were used.
3. Neolithic Age or New Stone Age- Fine and polished stone tools were used.
Bone and wooden tools were also used in this period.
