CH -16- THE PRIMITIVE MAN

Ans- The early humans required tools for hunting food, to cut raw flesh and to dig out roots
of plants with sharp-edged stones.
They made tools using a sharply pointed stone, tied it to the wooden stick and used it to kill
an animal without going near it. Example- spear, hammer and axes.
They also used wood and hollow bones of animals to make tools.

Ans- Nomads are those who move from place to place are called nomads. The early humans
kept moving from one place to another in search of food. They did not settle at one place
hence they were called NOMADS.

Ans- Early humans must have discovered the fire from naturally occurred forest fire or
lightening.
They realized that wild animals were driven off by fire, it kept them warm during cold
climate, used fire to cook food.

Ans-The early humans realized that plant grow well in a certain type of soil and they need
water for themselves, to grow their crops and to the rearing of animals Thus they settled near
river banks.

Ans- Animals such as buffalo, goat, camel, horse, etc were domesticated by early humans
because they provided food, milk, carried loads and used the animal skin for clothing.

Ans-Raft- A collection of logs or timber fastened together for conveyance by water is called
raft.
Sledge- A vehicle on runners for conveying loads or passenger over snow or ice often pulled
by animals
Or carts made out of a flat piece of wood that could be pulled along an even ground is called
a sledge.
About 5,000 years ago the early human witnessed a log roll down a hill which gave him the
idea of making the wheel.

Ans-Early humans discovered that some stones contain metals such as iron and copper. They
used it to make sharp and strong tools. Also used these tools for hunting and clearing the
jungles for farming.
