Server Installation
Preparations

Recommended folder structure


Please create the following folder structure and copy the primtech installation package
to the folder ..\primtechRoot\Install.
Root directory: ..\primtechRoot

Windows User Group


Create a Windows user group (e.g. primtechUsers, create in ActiveDirectory/Domain or
locally on the file server) and put all future primtech users in it to manage access
permissions.

Database
Microsoft SQL Server should be installed. We recommend a named instance with the
name “PRIMTECH”.

Database type
Select the desired database type. By default, the Microsoft SQL-Server is selected. The
primtech setup supports both, (i) using one server or (ii) using a separate application
and database server.
If you want to use an oracle server, please contact primtech support
(support@primtech.com) for further information.
If “Don´t use database information” is selected, the primtech databases have to be
connected manually later. In this case, please contact primtech support
(support@primtech.com) for further information.

Server root
Please select the root directory, which will be used to install primtech data and which
will be shared using the “Name of network share”.
Please enter a valid name for “Group or user name to access the network share” (as
mentioned above).
Standalone installation: If you leave “Name of network share” empty, the directory will
not be shared and you do not need to give “Group or user name..”

After a successful installation, the server setup created the following default directory.

In the folder “primtech_ClientSetup”, you will find the prepared client setup. Please use
this setup folder to install your client machines.

AutoCAD
Please select your current AutoCAD version to use.
If you have installed multiple matching AutoCAD versions (MEP, ACA, Standard), the
version is selected in the following order: MEP 2017, ACA 2017, ACAD 2017. If you have
installed multiple languages for the different products, the original language will be
selected (e.g. English MEP with Spanish language pack => English MEP will be used).
Please select the appropriate version from the combo box.

SQL-Server
If you have SQL-Server preinstalled, select “Use existing local SQL-Server”. “Username
or group..” is not required in this case.

Please choose “Install local SQL-Server Express”, if the SQL Server Express has to be
installed. Adjust value for Instance name to your system. It is recommended to use the
same instance name on all clients attached to the same primtech server.
It is recommended to use “.\Users” as “Username or group to add as local sysadmin”
(leaving the field empty will result in using this local group “.\Users”). primtech will
attach and detach databases, so “full control” is required on the local SQL Express
instance. The name of these groups depends on the language of the operating system
(Usuarios in Spanish, Utilisateurs in French…)

Data Setup
Desktop links
Start primtech using the desktop link “primtech 16”. This link will use the AutoCAD
version which was selected during the setup.
The first start may take some time. If you did not start AutoCAD since the last startup of
Windows, it will take a while longer.

First logon
You will be prompted that the current user is unknown. This is expected.

Confirm and logon as “Administrator”, password “primt%1” (this password applies also
to the SQL Server user primtech, if you would ever need it). You may change that later,
if you want to.

If you did not use the LicenseRequest-Tool in advance, you will now be prompted with

Please send the license request as an email to support@primtech.com to get a license


file for each workstation. If you don´t have a mail program installed, save this code to a
text file and attach it to an email, add the computer name to the email and send it to
support@primtech.com. You will receive a license file from primtech support.

Add a new user. Name = Windows logon name, Full name = name of the person.
You may/should leave the password empty. primtech uses automatic logon, so all
known users will never see a logon dialog.

Assign all required rights and/or groups. Groups are groups of rights.
Only users with the right “Administrator” can create new user accounts. So you should

Initial Data Set
In order to start using primtech you need an initial data set (library content, templates
