Relevant SC Standards:

2.G.1 Identify the geographic location of the U.S. in relation to the rest of the world.

2.G.2 Describe and compare various landforms over time within the U.S. through the use of primary
and secondary sources.

2.G.3 Explain how the distribution of human features, physical features, and natural resources
within the U.S. changes over time and impacts economic activity.

Description: This app lesson will develop my second-grade students' ability to distinguish each
state, while also integrating geography into the lesson.
Instructional Objective: Students will be able to locate 10 states. Students also will have
knowledge of what historical event occurred in their state.

Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will first get in a small group of 2 or 3 then
they will pick a state. Once they have picked a state they will use this history timeline app to
research what historical event took place in their state.

Step 2 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will use the app “Stack the States” to practice
learning the geography of their state of choice. They will be able to identify their state on our
countries map after the use of this app.

Step 3 Creation-Based (Learning Artifact) or Skill-Based App (Screenshot of Progress):


Students will use this app to create a narrated presentation, to present in front of the class. In this
presentation they will display knowledge of the geography of their state and what historic event
occurred in that state. Since the groups must present in front of the class, other students will retain
knowledge of different states from all the different presentations.
