A Critique on

Pantene’s Advertisement by Selena Gomez

The advertisement presented the development of a new Pantene Silky Smooth Care Shampoo that
drenches hair with its creamy, nourishing Pro-V Nutrient Blends that balancing hair’s moisture and
making it smooth like silk (Pantene, n.d). It is offering the Vitamin B5, an essential vitamin for hair
growth and health that is present in their shampoo to the consumers. And the context of this ad is to raise
Women Empowerment by using the tagline “Strong is Beautiful” meaning, girls feel more beautiful when
they feel strong and fearless. In 2016, Aymon Jilanj stated that, Gomez asserts that “Strong is Beautiful,”
is a statement heavily strumming how the target audience will perceive the product. All individuals are to
some extent susceptible to the desire of meeting beauty standards imposed by society, thus, if a
personality that an individual feels is credible and meriting of society implemented beauty
correlates “Pantene” with attaining the exclusive title of “beauty,” they will likely turn to “Pantene” to
meet this desire. The product that was being advertised costs ₱112.00 per shampoo bottle and ₱6.00 per
sachet which is very affordable to all.
