2.1.1 SIU
The SIU contains a Uni Rack with built-in power supply, 8 serial, 8 analog and 64 digital interfaces.
The SIU must be connected to the DAU with a standard shielded CAT5 cable.
3 Installation
3.1 Installation kit
An Installation kit p/n 2302118-10 is supplied with the unit: It contains the following parts:
3.2 SIU
The SIU must be installed on a bulkhead which can easily carry the weight of the SIU. The SIU
must be protected from rain, seawater and direct sunlight. Consult Appendix A Installation of SIU
for details.
The braid screen for cables terminated with a Wago terminal block must be connected to the cable
support beam as shown above.
3.6 Tool for opening the wire clamps inside the Wago connectors
The wire clamps in the Wago connectors can easily be opened with a small tool included in the
installation kit.

The operational mode of each input is determined by the VDR configuration, consult section 4.8.
All inputs are individually galvanically isolated.
The operational mode of each input is determined by the VDR configuration, consult section 4.7
All inputs are individually galvanically isolated
4 Configuration
The compact SIU’s physical configuration is fixed, i.e. there are no modules which can be moved
around. It occupies a fixed space in the VDR configuration depending on whether it is configured to
be the first or second SIU i.e. a compact SIU, is equivalent to a modular SIU with 6 slots/modules.
Module ID in VDR
configuration
Logical interface ID in
configurator and VDR
Module status
Configuration space occupied by 1st and 2nd compact SIU in a VM II, III VDR
This page shows the current configuration and may be used to add or remove an SIU.
Instructions for configuring the serial interfaces can be found in “DBS11139 Installation manual for
Sperry Voyage Master IV VDR”.
Module #
A unique identification of the module.
Slot
Position of module (slot).
Active
Parameter used for activating or de-activation a module. Notice that it is possible to allocate a slot
for a de-activated module and then configure it later. De-activating a module will not erase its
configuration.
Name
Informative text.
Node ID
Informative text.
Number of channels
Indicates the number of channels the module occupies in the configuration space.
Active
This checkbox is used to enable/disable the channel
Channel #
Unique identification of this interface
Channel ID
There are several descriptive fields related to the configuration for a serial channel. The text entered
in this field will be used in conjunction with the replay software. The recommended use of this field
is to store the generic term for the connected equipment e.g. Fire door #1.
Source info
Additional descriptive field.
Source type
Descriptive field - must be used for unambiguously describing the equipment connected to this
interface i.e. type, model.
Type
Two operational modes are supported.
- Voltage sense (Normal)
- Contact closure
Consult section 3.9 for details
Note
Informative text.
It is possible to swap the definition of inactive state (low voltage or contact closed) and the active
state (high voltage or contact open). The value for the input (channel) which is currently being
calibrated is indicated with a gray background color.
Module #
A unique identification of the module.
System slot
Position of module (slot).
Active
Parameter used for activating or de-activation a module. Notice that it is possible to allocate a slot
for and configure a de-activated module. De-activating a module will not erase its configuration.

Number of channels
Indicates the number of channels the module occupies in the configuration space. Please notice that
only the first eight of these interfaces exist on the standard version of the compact SIU.
Active
This checkbox is used to enable/disable the channel.
Channel #
Unique identification of this interface
Channel ID
There are several descriptive fields related to the configuration for an analog channel. The text
entered in this field will be used in conjunction with the replay software. The recommended use of
this field is to store the generic term for the connected equipment, e.g. azipod #1.
Source info
Additional descriptive field.
Source type
Descriptive field - must be used for unambiguously describing the equipment connected to this
interface, i.e. type, model.
Source unit
The unit of measurement, e.g. RPM
Mode
Two operational modes are supported.
- Voltage sense
- Current loop
Consult section 3.8 for details
Note
Informative text.
Analog data must in general be calibrated before they are useful, i.e. no vessel sails 5V. The two
calibration points should be set close to the extremes if possible.
