Abstract—A novel dual band CPW-fed antenna with symmetrical composed of a square ring with two L-strips attached to the

III. PARAMETRIC STUDY AND EXPERIMEN
NTAL RESULTS
The simulated results obtained using Annsoft HFSS and
validated using and Agilent N5230A vectoor analyzer. The
simulated results for different values of d andd W are shown in
Figs. 2a and 2b. It is observed that the 5.2 GGHz WLAN band
is very sensitive to the dimensions of dual L L-shape strip and
the W width of the feedline. To study the e ffect of modified
structures on the antenna performance, thhe simulated and
measured S11 results of the antenna with and w without L-strip (d
= 0) is presented in Fig. 2. There is a good allignment between
the simulated and measured curves presenteed in Fig. 2c. A
small discrepancy exists between measured and simulated

results which is mainly due to the solderinng problems and Fig. 2. (a) S11 for different distances of d,
SMA effect. From Fig. 2 it could be undersstood that the 5.2 measured S11 of the
GHz WLAN band is achieved through addiing L-strips. The
measured 10dB impedance bandwidths are 930 MHz (2.48-
3.54 GHz) and 290MHz (5.12-5.41 GHz), w which are equal to
31 and 5 % with respect to the resonnance frequency,
respectively. Measured radiation patterns at two different
frequencies of 3.5 GHz and 5.2 GHz in the xx-z and y-z planes
are shown in Fig. 3. The radiation patterns aree showing a good
performance due to the symmetrical structurre. The measured
gain and simulated efficiency of the antennaa are presented in
Fig. 4. Antenna shows a high efficiency andd stable gain over
all its operating frequencies. The peak meassured gain of the (a)
antenna is 3dB.

IV.CONCLUSION

A simple, yet novel and efficient monopolle antenna design

for WLAN/WiMax applications is presented. In this work two
L-strips are added to the radiator to excite thee 5.2 GHz WLAN
band. By combining the L-strips with the squuare ring radiator
multiple impedance bandwidths (2.48-3.54, 55.12-5.4 GHz) are
obtained. Within its miniaturized size andd good radiation
pattern performance, high efficiency and stable gain, the
proposed antenna is of desired dual band moonopole antennas
for wireless applications.
