TRAFFICVISION

Video Analytics Detection in the Cloud

WHAT IS TRAFFICVISION?
TrafficVision is a video analytics software tool that allows traffic management
Incident Detection
centers (TMCs) to turn their existing CCTV cameras into intelligent sensors to detect
incidents and collect data. The purpose of a TMC is to allow a department of
transportation (DOT) to monitor traffic flow so that accidents can be handled quickly
and notifications can be sent to the public to improve safety and their travel
experience. Every minute counts in detecting and appropriately responding to
incidents on highways, given the extreme levels of congestion in today’s cities.

rely on just a few operators to monitor a video wall while performing other critical
tasks. Studies have shown that for minutes of delay in detecting and clearing
accidents, miles of traffic can build up in a queue on the highway, which can increase
the risk of secondary accidents as well as waste fuel and productivity.
Traffic management professionals have also relied on expensive and intrusive
devices to collect traffic data. These devices are not only costly, but they are also
dangerous to install and maintain because they are installed in or very near the road.
The industry is primed for a software-based technology solution that leverages
today’s existing camera infrastructure for years to come in a more intelligent way.

TrafficVision allows agencies to use the infrastructure they have already purchased
and installed more effectively for traffic management. This back-end video analytic
solution can upgrade outdated, reactive and expensive operational models, making
them proactive and cost effective, using existing infrastructure.

ADDED VALUE: TRAFFICVISION IN THE CLOUD

Information Technology (IT) professionals working for DOTs have a huge
responsibility for keeping these TMCs secure and operational. To help ease the
burden, TrafficVision software can be run as a service in the cloud with minimal Snapshot of vehicle stopped on the off

traffic management professionals to get the alerts and data they need when they
need it, without adding to the IT department load and responsibilities.

REAL-TIME TRAFFIC DATA

Existing cameras with good views close to the road can now
be used as data collection sensors. Traffic data collected can
be stored for planning purposes, such as projecting traffic
impacts, or serve as a real-time indicator of traffic flow, and
can be integrated into operational procedures and
algorithms.

within a camera’s field of view over a 12-hour period. This

these existing cameras, with no need to send crews to install
or maintain additional equipment.
