To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Yunuen Sanchez. I am Yunuen’s
Outreach Advisor for Upward Bound North at Sonoma State University. The Upward Bound Program is a
precollege program that serves first-generation high school students from low-income households, and requires
its participants to spend 12 Saturdays during the school year and six weeks during the summer for academic
enrichment and improvement. I have known Yunuen for 3 years. In my time working with her, I have known
Yunuen to be a hard-working, driven student with the goal of attending a 4-year college directly after
graduating from high school.

In order to help prepare herself for college, Yunuen has been working hard in all of her high school courses,
making sure that she achieves the best grades possible to be an eligible candidate for the college of her
choosing, which is reflected in her academic GPA. She has taken above the required A-G courses in high school
to ensure that she will be able to rise to the demand of college level courses and be successful. Yunuen has a
clear picture on what she wants her future to look like which means majoring in Chemistry and becoming a
forensic scientist; she is passionate and intrigued in pursing forensics.

Yunuen’s sunny disposition has been a positive influence on her peers in Upward Bound. She works well with
any group because of her ability to lead. Yunuen models a great work ethic, asking questions and working
tenaciously to master difficult material. She takes initiative to go beyond the regular classroom assignment to
produce excellent results to her ability. She is organized, efficient and task-oriented. Despite participating in a
myriad of extracurricular (e.g., Student Body President, California Girls State, Principal’s List and Honors Roll)
and community service activities, Yunuen has done an incredible job balancing school with extracurricular
activities

Yunuen is a first-generation, college bound student who will work hard to ensure that she is able to accomplish
her goals, and more, in the years to come.
