Extracurricular Experience

Describe the activities you have participated in. These might include sports, ASB, clubs, theater,
church groups, or other organized activities outside of regular school hours.
Throughout high school, I have participated in ASB, Upward Bound, and sports as
extracurricular activities. This year, as ASB VP, I have been helping organize rallies and school
dances. As an Upward Bound student, I have attended summer academy, as well as Saturday
academy throughout these four years. I have been playing soccer since my freshman year and
track as of this year.

On average, how many hours do you dedicate to your extracurricular life each week or month?
On average, I dedicate about 20-25 hours to my extracurricular life each week. I like to
keep myself busy because it encourages me to do better in school.

Have you enjoyed your extracurricular experiences so far? Why or why not?
Yes, I have enjoyed my extracurricular activities. Each activity has pushed me to come
out of my comfort zone, as well as make new friends. These activities have made my high school
experience better than expected.

What kinds of soft skills, academic skills, and/or specialized training have you needed to use to
participate fully in these experiences?
The biggest soft skill needed is time management because balancing schoolwork with
other activities can be stressful. You also need to be very open-minded since you create bonds
with many different people.

How might these skills be used in a career or college environment?

The one program that has made me grow as a person is Upward Bound. As a freshman, I
was shy and afraid to make friends. Since then, I have come out of my shell and have been able
to make life long friends. I will utilize this skill in college because it is a new environment, with
new people; I believe I am more prepared to make strangers my friends.

What have learned about yourself so far by participating in extracurricular activities?

I have learned that I love to keep myself busy. Being able to participate in extracurricular
activities pushes me to be a better person and a better student.
