Praxis Core Exam Analysis

The Praxis Core exam must be passed in order to be admitted into a higher level of

college education and to continue pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

The exam is required to be taken to measure the academic skills of all those who are interested in

a career as an educator of any grade level. In order for me to continue my studies at the

University of Nevada Las Vegas, I must have passed the Praxis Core exams in the subjects of

reading, writing and math with a passing score. The passing scores for the Praxis Core exam in

the state of Nevada are as follows; a writing passing score is 162, reading is 156, and math is

150.

To prepare for the exam I first became familiar with what was required for this exam in

the state of Nevada. I began by reading all of the links provided that led to the ETS website.

Within the links, I was able to learn what the Praxis exam is, the requirements that are to be

followed as well as resources that can help when preparing to take the exam. To prepare and

study for the exam I looked around and utilized a few websites that were targeted towards

helping study and prepare for the exam. The first one that I used was Khan Academy, I mainly

used this website for math prep as the videos and practice questions were able to show me step

by step exercises for a variety of topics that could be presented in the Praxis Exam. The next

resource that I used was the Teachers Test Prep website. This one I found to be very useful as I

was able to take an actual practice test that is somewhat similar to the actual Praxis Exam. At the

end I was given the results immediately and I was able to look back at the questions I got wrong

and it helped me see which subject areas I need the most practice in. Overall, I’ve been trying to

use the resources to prepare and practice before doing the actual test.

For the Praxis Core Analysis assignment, I took the practice math and writing tests as

those are the two exams I have not officially passed. On the Math test, I scored a 96%; the

website states that I am very likely to pass this section when it come time to take the official

Praxis Core Exam. On the writing test I scored a 100%; the website states that I am very likely to

pass this section when it comes time to take the official exam. The practice exam results were

based on a variety of topics such as numbers, quantity, algebra and geometry for the math exam

and language and research skills for the writing exam. After taking these two practice tests and

seeing the results that I got I am feeling more confident to be able to pass the official exams.

Although I got good scores on the practice tests for this assignment I still need to

continue preparing and practicing so that I can pass the official math and writing exams in the

future. To prepare myself to pass these exams I need to continue practicing on the resources that

I have already worked with as well as look for new resources. I think that I will continue using

Khan Academy for my math preparation as I have seen over these past couple of weeks that I am

beginning to understand a few math concepts that I have had trouble with. For writing prep, I

will use the mometrix test preparation website and do the practices tests that are available.

Overall these resources have been very helpful in preparing to earn a qualifying score on the

official Praxis Exams.
