Boiler Passivation

1. Unit load has to be reduced to minimum 40 MW.

2. Hand trip turbine after informing switchyard at Drum Pr around 45-50 KSc.
3. One series of SAF, PAF and ID Fan to be stopped.
4. Reduce the Drum Pressure gradually and bring down to 30 KSC and maintain with one SUB and
Lignite.
5. Close CBD and other sampling lines except drum sample.
6. Condenser Vacuum to be maintained and PRDS system to be in charge condition.
7. Maintain the main stream flow 50 TPH (Check from FW flow) and temperature 230-240 degree
centigrade by controlling through injection valves of SH / RH system.
8. RH vent should not be opened.
9. LPBP system should be in service.
10. Chemical staff shall be informed for dozing and analysis after tripping the turbine.
11. Keep the boiler in service at drum pressure 25- 30 Ksc. Start dozing hydrazine in drum & feed
pump suction. Adjust the firing with one oil burners to about 2 to 3 T/hr and 15-20 TPH lignite and
maintain 30 Ksc drum pressure by tuning HPBP.
12. Passivation commences once 200 PPM of N2H4 concentration reaches in drum. This will continue
for 24 Hrs.
13. Hydrazine dozing will be stopped after 24 Hrs of passivation. Box up the boiler.
14. Allow the boiler to cool naturally.
15. Hourly readings, chemical analysis and other parameters to be recorded during passivation.
16. Boiler has to be hot drained once the drum pressure dropped to 3 Ksc and drum metal
temperature reduced to 120 C.
17. Service water / Firewater have to be added to the outlet of IBD tank to reduce N2H4
concentration to the desired level. P H value has to be monitored.
18. After 24 Hrs of passivation boiler forced cooling to be started with one series of Fans and blowers.
Draining the contour fully, one series of fans may be started for cooling the furnace for further
works.
19. During passivation every two hours all motorized vents (except drum vent) and drains to be crack
opened for 3 -5 minutes and closed.
Turbine Scheme preparation
1. Ensure all MAL drains to be opened.
2. All HP/LP heaters to be bypassed.
3. EBFB should be available.
4. ECW, CST, EDMT tank levels to be continuously monitored.
5. Turbine metal temperature and exhaust hood temperature to be monitored continuously.
