Two-paragraph summary on “How to write a Play Review” based on WikiHow,

A play is a live performance which makes it harder to make an article about. WikiHow informed
us on “How to Write a Play Review” and is divided into Two Parts. The first part issued on how
to prepare to write a Play Review while the second part explained the writing part of a Play
Review. Firstly, WikiHow informed us that writing a Play Review should capture the picture of a
Bird’s eye. We should be able to understand the concept of what it’s trying to convey to the
audience in order for the readers of the Play Review to be enlightened. In Addition, we have to
critique the play, give suggestions, commentaries and also analyze the play.

The start of preparing to write a Play Review is to know its purpose. The review should be able
to convince readers whether the money for the ticket would be well spent or not, and why.
Tackling, in your own opinion, about whether the play is “good” or not would not be a strong
element to convince your readers. Rather discuss the cooperation in the production for a
supported opinion. As well as discussing the plot without giving away “spoilers”. The review is
better off made in the traditional structure of 5 paragraphs. This neatly considers where you
introduce, briefly talk about the plot, the acting and directing, design, and final thoughts on the
play. Read and analyze other reviews (not plagiarize though) for more understanding. Read the
play, if you have a chance, and pay attention to the directing for the live performance. In
addition, sense the context of the play (which theatre co. sponsored, who directed, change from
the original play, choice of setting etc.).
To write the Play Review is to first look at the play’s program prior before show time. From this,
check on cast biographies and director/s’ notes. Don’t judge based on your preferences rather
evaluate and consider production choices. Take notes during the show. Record their set
designs, the acting, special FX, then include after-notes. Write a rough draft right after the play.
Discuss what you saw, your thoughts and judgements specifically and carefully.
Open the review with a line to hook your readers in interest to read further, answer the 4 W’s in
paragraph one, plot summary in paragraph two, acting and directing in paragraph three, analyze
design elements in paragraph four, then final thoughts on the whole play for paragraph five.
Proof-read for misspellings or grammatical errors when needed.
