The Life and Works of Rizal

Comparison of Rizal’s and my childhood

The reporters mentioned that Rizal’s earliest memories were when he was
three years old. As for me, I couldn’t remember things until I was four or five
years old. This may hint that our national hero truly is a genius. In terms of
religion, I think that Rizal’s family and mine are similar in our religious practices.
Our mother always encourages us to pray the daily prayers, like the Angelus, and
pray the rosary every time we had the chance. In our family, all my siblings are
girls, which is similar to Rizal’s, since most of his siblings are girls.

During Rizal’s childhood, I can see some of his hobbies being similar to
mine. Like when I was in grade school, I grew a liking to writing poems. But
unfortunately, unlike him, I ultimately lost interest in that field. In the subject of
words, I learned to read the alphabet through the teachings and influence of my
mother. Similarly, Rizal also acquired his literacy skills with the assistance of his
mother. However, from the list of Rizal’s wide variety of talents and hobbies, we
were only similar on the aforementioned fields. Rizal enjoyed many things, and at
the same time excelled in them. Unlike him, my skills and hobbies are only limited
to a certain point. I can only say for certain that the most significant similarity I
have with our beloved national hero is my perseverance and dedication in
learning and acquiring new knowledge that can help me develop into an agent of
positive change. Like him, I will utilize my talents for the betterment of the people
around me, and I hope to inspire the younger generation to observe patriotism
and love for the Philippines. I wish to accomplish all my plans and dreams with
Rizal’s influence and also be an inspiration to people, just like he is to me.
