Just A Simple Man

© Gary C. Fussell

We miss you Father because it's just not quite the same
We miss that awesome coach and that championship game
We miss you Father for the vacation trips we took together
Whether it be in Florida or Corpus Christi's humid weather
We miss you Father for the family sit-down dinners
For the taste of your juice steaks and barbecued ribs were always winners
We miss you Father for the great summer at the lake,
The fishing, boat rides, swimming and Moms home made cakes,
We miss you Father for all the fantastic birthday parties and card games of 31,
always a piñata to break with the kids taking a turn one by one,
We miss you Father especially during the Christmas season,
you always gave us our every wish,
because you loved us so,
that was your primary reason
We miss you Father most of all we love you too,
It's incredible what one can do
You put every one of us through college and supported our plan,
you always worked two jobs and did all that you can
You painted houses, and mowed lawns,
you always fixed everything you laid your hand on
You lived your life for others for 59 years, then cancer took you and left us in tears
You were a model father married to just one spouse, always faithful and loyal,
The spiritual leader of our house
We love you father for just being a simple man,
implanted with God's love in the palm of your hand.
