STEP 2: The Requirements

The objective is to provide a reference against which installers of CCTV system, whether
analogue, digital or a combination of both can be inspected to ensure that the functions and
performance of CCTV systems installed by them are within levels agreed by the licensed
contractor and the client.
1. Location Survey
PURPOSE: To identify the best placing for camera, the direction of natural light, potential
and actual environmental problems. The location survey shall take account of the following: risk,
contents and building and supervision levels. The location survey shall have sufficient details
to address the security requirements of the client and shall lead to a site plan being prepared with
the optimal positioning points for cameras being indicated on the site plan.

2. System Design
PURPOSE: To determine the extent of the CCTV system; select the appropriate equipment
and to prepare a system design proposal. The system design shall also be informed by the client’s
as to the purpose of the camera images.
When designing the system, installers shall conduct a risk assessment to determine the risk level
and shall also design the system paying attention to the function of the observeror surveillance as
described by the client. The function of the surveillance can include: crowd control, theft,
unauthorized entry.

3. Installation Planning
Prior to commencing the installation of the components of the CCTV system, the
following issues shall be considered:
a. Manufacturer’s Recommendation

b. Environmental Conditions

4. CCTV Installation
The installation shall be carried out by installers with the necessary training and experience.
Installers shall have the appropriate tools and test equipment necessary to install the CCTV system
correctly. The equipment must be of a standard necessary to provide the required precision and
accuracy to install and test the system.
Electrical installation methods shall comply with current national and site regulations and the
electrical installation shall be carried out by technicians who are qualified to the appropriate level.

5. Test and Commission

a. Inspection – shall be carried out and documented on completion of the

installation of the CCTV system to confirm that the CCTV system has been
installed in accordance with the system design proposal.
b. Testing – the CCTV system shall be tested and compared with the requirements
included in the system design proposal.

To further summarize the necessary requirements, below is a prepared flow chart of the entire
process:

 How Busy is the Area

STEP 2: The Requirements

1. Shade
The area you want to illuminate with solar street lights needs to have access to direct
sunlight; that much you should know about solar energy. However, the shade changes
during the day. Before you install solar lights, you need to calculate the amount of light
which reaches that spot during the day. Solar panels will only need a certain amount of
sunlight to generate enough electricity to be able to run all night.
2. How Busy is the Area
Modern solar lights operate using adaptive lighting techniques, meaning that they go
off at certain times to conserve even more energy. However, if the area is active all
through the night, it is not ideal to turn the lights off. That is why you need to research
the amount of traffic in the area and modify your solar lights accordingly.
3. Lighting Requirement
Depending on the size of the area, you may need to use stronger or less potent LED
lights and accompanying solar fixtures. It’s not only the size of the area that can have
an impact on your project. Any kind of obstructions also play an important role in
determining the spacing of your light fixtures. Typically, each is needed to be spaced
at around 100 feet apart. However, if there are buildings or trees or any other kind of
obstruction, you may need to increase the density.
4. Height Requirements
Default height of a lighting pole may not be suitable for all purposes. For instance, if a tree
line is present that you do not want to disrupt, you can rearrange for your solar panel to be
raised above it without the need to cut any trees. Similarly, particularly windy areas need
specialized poles which can withstand the force of the wind. If you have any such
restrictions, make sure that you are upfront about it, so that it doesn’t come as a nasty
surprise when it comes time to foot the bill.

STEP 2: The Requirements

When building, modifying, maintaining, or operating any part of an irrigation system, one
must always consider the effect of that part on the entire system. The original design must be kept
in mind and the balance of flows and pressures must be maintained.
Three overall design criteria should be kept in mind:
1. Adequate Availability of Water
The water supply may be limited to some minimum flow rate for year round delivery. Wells
may be fairly steady all year but surface water supplies may fluctuate. Determine the limits
on the water supply and size primary and backup pumps to the available flow. Seasonal
minimum flow rates will likely occur at time of maximum demand.
2. Irrigation System Capacity
An irrigation system frequently cannot everything at one time and must be divided into
zones that do not exceed the water supply available in gallons per minute. An irrigation
zone is the amount of the irrigation system that can be operated at one time without
exceeding the water available. The total number of zones cannot exceed the daily water
supply. An irrigation zone must be able to supply the water needed by a mature crop on a
hot, summer day.
An irrigation system should not be required to operate 24 hours a day to meet crop needs;
some maintenance downtime should be included in the daily schedule. This extra capacity
may be needed for extreme weather conditions.
3. Distribution Uniformity
Uniformity refers to the extent to which all plants in an irrigation zone receive the same
amount of water. Although perfect uniformity is an ideal that cannot be achieved in
practice, a high level of uniformity is desired so that the crop is fairly uniform.
