2603.1 The work shall be carried out, complying in all respects with the
requirements of relevant bylaws of the local body in whose jurisdiction
the work is situated.
2603.2 All sanitary and plumbing work shall be carried out through licensed
plumbers. Contractor will furnish the particulars and copies of
credentials of plumbers to be employed and the list approved before
commencing work. Only those in the lists will be permitted to do the
work in the said premises.

2603.3 Fixing
2603.3.1 Soil waste and ventilating branch connections with supporting brackets,
shall be fitted before erection of appliances is taken up.
2603.3.2 Care should be taken at all times, particularly after fixing, to protect
appliances from damage. All orifices shall be temporarily plugged,
during progress of work, to prevent obstruction.
2603.5 All exposed GI, CI or lead pipes and fittings shall be painted with
approved quality of paint and shade as specified. Painting work shall
conform to respective specifications.
2603.6 On completion of work, the site shall be cleaned and all rubbish
disposed of, as directed by engineer.

ii) All labour and materials, fixtures etc. required for the finished

2604 INSTALLATION
2604.1.1 Installation shall consist of water closet, with seat and cover, flushing
cistern (unless otherwise specifically excluded) and flush bend. W.C.
pan shall be of wash down type in white glazed earthenware or
vitreous China, as specified. It shall be with an integral P or S trap with
sufficiently effective seal not less than 5 cm in depth and with our
without a vent, as specified.
2604.1.2 Fixing
2604.1.4 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all labour and materials involved in all the
operations described above including cutting floor and making good as
directed.
2604.2.1 The seat and lid shall be of well-seasoned teak wood or mahogany or
Bakelite or plastic, as specified, with rubber buffers, conforming to
relevant IS specifications.

Rate shall include the cost of all labour and materials involved in all the
operations describe above.
2604.3.1 W.C. pan shall be of specified size of white glaze earthenware “wash-
down type”, unless otherwise specified. It shall have flushing horn (in-
let) in the front, unless it is not possible to accommodate the cistern to
suit the chosen design, which should be brought to notice of Engineer.
In all cases a pan shall be provided with the 100 mm S. C.I trap ‘P’ or
‘S’ type with approximately 50 mm dia. Vent horn, where required by
the Engineer.
2604.3.2 Installation shall consist of squatting pan, flushing cistern, flush pipe
and a pair of foot rests.
2604.3.3 Fixing
The pan shall be sunk into the floor and embedded in a cushion of
average 15 cm thick cement concrete 1:5:10 (1 cement: 5 fine sand: 10
graded brick ballast 40 mm nominal size). The concrete shall be left
115 mm below the top level of the pan so as to allow flooring and its
bed concrete. The pan shall be provided with a 100 mm S.C.I., P or S
type trap with an approximately 50 mm seal and 50 mm dia vent horn,
where required by Engineer. The joint between the pan and the trap
shall be made leak-proof with cement mortar 1: 1 (1 cement: 1 fine
sand).
2604.3.5 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all materials and labour involved in all
operations described above. Cost of concrete shall be paid for
separately.
2604.4.1 After laying the floor around squatting pan, as specified, a pair of
footrests shall be fixed in cement mortar 1:3 (1 cement: 3 coarse sand).
2604.4.3 Rate

operations described above.

2604.6.2 Fixing
Floor slab shall be suitably sunk to receive the stall urinal. Where the
floor slab is not sunk, the stall urinal shall be provided over a platform.
The lip of the stall urinal shall be flush with the finished floor level
adjacent to it. The stall urinal shall be laid over a fine sand cushion of
average 25 mm thickness. A space of not less than 3 mm shall be
provided all around, in front, sides and filled with water proofing plastic
compound. Care should be taken that after the sub grade for the floors
is cast, one week should lapse before urinals are installed. Trap and
fittings shall be fixed as directed by engineer. Payment for floor and its
sub grade shall be made separately.

2604.7. 2 Fixing
Floor slab shall be suitably sunk to receive the squatting plate. Where
the floor slab is not sunk, the plates shall be provided over a platform.
The top edge of the squatting plate shall be flush with the finished floor
level adjacent to it. It shall be embedded on a layer pf 25 mm thick
cement mortar (1 cement : 8 fine sand) laid over a bed of cement
concrete 1:5:10 (1 cement : 5 fine sand : 10 graded brick aggregate 20
mm nominal size).
There shall be 100 mm dia white glazed vitreous China channels with
stop and outlet pieces suitably fixed in the floor in cement mortar 1:3 (1
cement : 3 coarse sand) and joint finished with white cement. The
squatting plate shall have 1200 mm high and half brick thick wall in
front and on either side of the squatting plate. Brick work for the walls
shall be paid for separately. Exposed surface of walls shall be lined
with white glazed tiles with proper corners and angles set in neat
cement mortar. The face of the joints shall be done over with the
whiting so as to match with the colour of tiles. The tiles shall be 15 cm
square. Space, if any, left between side walls and squatting plate shall
be finished white to match the colour of the squatting plate. Trap and
fittings shall be fixed as directed by engineer. Vitreous China channel
shall discharge into a 65 mm diameter standard urinals, CI trap with
vent arm having 65 mm, CP brass outlet grating.
2604.7.4 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all labour and materials involved in all the
operations described above.
2604.8.1 The basin shall be of white glazed earthenware or white vitreous China
(as specified) conforming to relevant IS Specification. The size of the
basin shall be as specified in the description of the item or as shown in
drawing. Wash basins shall be of one piece construction, including a
combined overflow. All internal angles shall be designed so as to
facilitate cleaning. Basins shall be provided with single or double tap
holes as specified.

2604.8.2 Installation shall consist of an assembly of wash basin, pillar taps, CI
brackets, CP brass or PVC union, and control wheel valve as specified.
The wash basin shall be provided with one or two 15 mm CP brass
pillar taps, as specified. The height of front edge of wash basin from
floor level shall be 80 cm.
2604.8.3 Fixing
The union shall be connected to 32mm dia waste pipe which shall be
suitable bent towards the wall and which shall discharge into an open
drain leading to gully trap or direct into the gully trap on the ground
floor and shall be connected to a waste pipe stack thorough a floor trap
on upper floors. The CP brass trap and union shall be provided only
when the waste pipe is to be embedded in the wall. The CP brass trap
and union shall not be provided when the waste is discharged through
floor trap or a surface drain leading to a floor trap. The pillar taps shall
be fixed in position and connected to supply water line using PVC
unions, pipe and control wheel valves.
2604.8.5 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all labour and materials and all fittings
and fixtures involved in all the operations described above.
2604.9 Sink
2604.9.1 Sinks shall be of white vitreous China or white glazed fire - clay or of
mosaic, as specified. Sinks of vitreous China shall conform to IS :
2556. They shall have overflow of weir type.

2604.9.2 Installation shall consist of an assembly of sink, CI brackets, union, tap,
wheel valve and GI or PVC waste pipe.
2604.9.3 Fixing

Rate shall include the cost of all labour and materials involved in all the
operations described above but shall not include the cost of waste
fitting and brackets which shall be paid for separately.
2604.10.2 Fixing
One end of the board shall rest on sink and the other end shall be
supported on CI bracket embedded in cement concrete (1:2:4) block
100 x 75 x 150 mm. The bracket used shall be of cantilever type or
wall fixed type as for the sink.
2604.10.3 Painting
A draining board, if in timber and not lined with aluminium sheet, shall
be finished on all sides with bee’s wax. Brackets shall be painted with
two or more coats of approved paint.
2604.10.5 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all labour and materials (including
fixtures) involved in all the operations described above.
2604.11.2 Fixing
Low level cistern – The cistern shall be fixed as detailed above except
the connection between cistern and closet shall be made by means of
40 mm dia flush bend with rubber plastics or GI inlet connection, as
specified.

The cisterns, brackets, overflow and flush pipe etc. shall be painted, if
specified, with two or more coats of paint of approved shade and
quality.
2604.11.5 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all labour, materials, fixtures and fittings
involved in all the operation described above.
2605.1.1 Sand-cast iron, spigot and socket soil, waste and vent pipes, fittings
and accessories shall conform to IS 1729.
Centrifugally cast (spun), iron spigot and socket, soil, waste and
ventilating pipes, fittings and accessories shall conform to IS 1389.
2605.1.2 Fittings shall conform to the same IS standards to which the pipe itself
conforms to which they are connected.
Pipes and fittings shall be true to shape, smooth and cylindrical, their
inner and outer surface being as nearly as practicable concentric.
They shall be sound and homogeneously cast, free from cracks, taps,
pinholes and other imperfection, neatly dressed and carefully fettled.
All pipes and fittings shall ring clearly when struck over with a light
hand hammer and shall be capable of being worked out with a drill or
file.
2605.1.3 All pipes and fittings shall be coated internally and externally with
approved anti- corrosive paint at the factory. The coating material shall
have good adherence and shall not scale off. Hot dip treatment is
preferred.
2605.1.5 The thickness and dimensions of fittings and their socket and spigot
shall conform to the thickness and dimension specified for the
corresponding sizes of straight pipes. The tolerances in weights and
thickness shall be the same as per straight pipes.
2605.3 Fixing
The pipes (without ears) and fittings shall be fixed to walls by using
proper holder- bat clamps. The pipes shall be fixed perfectly vertical or
in line as directed. The spigot end shall abut the shoulder of the socket
and leave no annular space in between. All soil pipes shall be carried
up above the roof and shall have SCI terminal guard.
2605.3.1 Connections between main pipe and branch pipe shall be made by
using proper branches and bends with access doors for cleaning.
2605.3.2 Holder bat clamps shall be ready-made malleable cast iron pipe clip
sets of approved make. These shall be fixed with coach screws to hard
wood plugs embedded in the wall. M .S. stay clamps shall be made
from 1.6 mm thick MS sheet of 30 mm width, bent to required size and
shape, so as to fit tightly on the socket of the pipe, when tightened with
screw bolts. It shall be formed out of two semi-circular pieces hinged
with 6 mm dia MS bolt and nut. The clamp shall be provided with a
hook made of 30 cm long 10 mm dia MS bar, riveted to the holder-bat
clamp at the centre. The clamp shall be fixed to the wall by embedding
the hooks in the cement concrete block of size 10 cm x 10 cm x 10cm,
and of mix 1:2:4 (1 cement: 2 coarse sand: 4 stone aggregate). The
clamp shall be kept 25 mm clear off finished wall face.
2605.4 Jointing
The interior of the socket and interior of the spigots shall be thoroughly
cleaned and dried. The spigot end shall be inserted into the socket and
carefully centred by two or three laps of treated spun yarn, twisted into
ropes of uniform thickness, well caulked into the back of the socket. No
piece of yarn shall be shorter than circumference of the pipe. The
jointed pipeline shall be at required levels and alignment.
a) The pot and the ladle in which the lead is shall be clean and dry
After lead has been run into a joint, the lead shall be thoroughly
caulked. Caulking of joints shall be done after a convenient length of
the pipes has been laid and leaded.
The leading ring shall first be removed and any lead outside the socket
shall be removed with a flat chisel and then the joint caulked round
three times with caulking tools of increasing thickness and hammer of
2-3 kg weight. The joints shall not be covered till the pipeline has been
tested under pressure.
The pipe above the parapet shall be secured to the wall by means of
MS stay and clamps as specified in sub clause 2605.3.2.
2605.6 Waste from lavatories, kitchen, basins, sinks, baths and other floor
traps shall be separately connected to respective waste stack of upper
floors. Waste stack of lavatories shall be connected directly to
manhole while the waste stack of others shall separately discharge
over gully trap. Where single stack system is provided, connection
shall be made direct to the manhole.
2605.6 Testing
All sand-cast iron / cast iron (spun) pipes and fittings including joint
shall be tested by smoke test to the satisfaction of engineer. Smoke

from a smoke machine, consisting of a bellow and burner shall be
pumped into the pipes at the lowest levels. The material usually burnt
is greasy cotton waste, which gives out a clear pungent smoke, which
is easily detectable by sight as well as by small, if there is a leak at any
point in the drain.
2605.7 Painting
All sand-cast iron / cast iron (spun) pipes and fittings shall be painted
with shade to match the colour of the background as directed by
engineer.
2605.9.1 The pipes shall be measured net linear end to end when fixed,
excluding all fittings along its length, correct to a cm.
2605.9.2 When collars are used, these shall be measured along with and paid
as pipes and no extra shall be paid for collars or for fixing them to wall
with bat clamps.
2605.9.3 No allowance shall be made for the portions of pipe lengths entering
the sockets of adjacent pipes or fittings. The above shall apply to both
cases i.e. whether the pipes are fixed on wall face or embedded in
masonry.
2605.9.4 No deduction shall be made in the former case from the masonry
measurement for the volume of concrete blocks embedded therein.
Similarly, no deduction shall be made for the volume occupied by the
pipes from the masonry when the former is embedded in the latter.
2605.10 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all labour and materials involved in all the
operations described above, including lead caulked jointing, supply and
fixing, MS holder bat clamps and MS stay clamp, painting and fixing
concrete blocks but excluding fittings, and floor traps which shall be
paid for separately.
2606.1 Mirror
2606.1.1 Mirror shall be of the best Indian make from approved supplier with
edge rounded or bevelled, as specified. It shall be mounted on 6 mm
thick plain asbestos sheet ground and shall be fixed in position by
means of 4 CP brass screws and CP brass washers over rubber
washers and wooden plugs firmly embedded in the wall. CP brass

clamps with CP brass screws may be used for fixing alternatively, if
approved by engineer.
The size of the mirror shall be 60 x 45 mm and thickness not less than
5.5 mm unless otherwise specified in drawings and / or schedules or by
engineer.
2606.1.3 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all materials, fixtures and labour involved
in all the operations described above.
2602.2.1 Shelf shall be made of best quality Indian glass free from flaws or other
impurities with rounded edges. The shelf shall have CP brass guard
rail with rubber washers on position resting on the glass plate and CP
brass brackets which shall be fixed with CP screws to wooden blocks
firmly embedded in the wall.
The size of the shelf shall be 60 x 12 cm and thickness not less than
5.5 mm unless specified otherwise in drawings and / or schedules of by
engineer.
2606.2.3 Rate
Rate shall include the cost of all materials, fixtures and labour involved
in all the operations described above.
2606.3.1 Towel Rails shall be of specified size of best Indian make. Rail shall be
of CP brass with two CP brackets or anodised aluminium fluted surface
with the anodised aluminium brackets.

2606.3.2 Measurement for Payment
2606.3.3 Rate

2607.1 Slabs to be used shall be of selected quality, hard, sound, free from
cracks, decaying, and weathering, flaws; machine cut and polished to
requisite size, shape and thickness. They shall be of the colour /
shade as indicated in drawings or as instructed by Engineer. Before
starting work, the contractor shall get samples of slabs approved by
Engineer.
2607.2 Tolerance of (+) or (-) 2 mm for thickness and + 3 mm for length and
breadth of slabs, shall be allowed.
2607.3 Fixing of slab shall be done by cutting a chase into wall at proper
location of size 10x10 cm size and of length 100 mm more than the
length of slab to allow for bearing. Then slab shall be held in proper
position at required level and truly in plumb by putting temporary
bottom and side supports. The slab shall be fixed in position with M.S.
clamps etc. The chase shall be filled up and well packed with cement
concrete 1:2:4 (1 cement : 2 coarse sand : 4 stone aggregate of 12.5
mm nominal size). The surface shall be finished to match the

surrounding surface. The supports shall be removed after the joint has
acquired sufficient strength.
2607.5 The joint shall then be kept wet for a minimum period of 7 days for
curing.
2607.6 The work shall be carried out conforming to the drawings and
instruction of the engineer.
2607.8 Rate
Rate shall include all cost of materials, fixtures and labour and fixing
arrangements involved in all the operations described above.
