1.

What are the factors to be considered for this to be

effective?

There are several factors to be considered in harvesting energy in

order for the project to harness energy effectively. One factor is the

weather, energy from evaporation, unlike solar or wind; it is less

dependent on weather. The characteristics of weather - Temperature,

Humidity, Wind Speed affects the rate of evaporation, thus affects

harvesting of energy. The higher the temperature, the more

evaporation. The lower the humidity, the more evaporation. The higher

the wind speed, the more evaporation.

2. What are the difficulties that may be encountered in the

use of evaporation as a renewable source of energy?

Using evaporation as a renewable source of energy comes with

challenges. The difficulty in manufacturing a large scale device is one

of these challenges, since it is water related and is dependent to some

factors to process, like temperature, the device must be sturdy enough

to resist and adapt to any natural calamities. There will also be

difficulties in the harvesting process, weather in this time are changing

rapidly and sometimes unpredictable due to climate change. The rate

of evaporation may vary from time to time.

3. Is our country capable of using this process to harness

energy? Why?

Philippines might have difficulties in pursuing this process due to

financial capabilities. In fact, nowadays there are lot of renewable

sources of energy available in the market but the country still invests

in coal-fired powered plants and the country faces many crisis that

there would not be enough investment for this project. I may say that

the country is incapable of implementing this wide scaled project in

terms of financial. However, if we are to consider the effectivity of the

project, I may say the country is capable. Philippines only have two

seasons, summer and rainy season. The topography of the country

gives the upper hand in utilizing this kind of process.

4. If the country is capable and decides to adopt this

process, what preparations should be made for it to be

effective?

If the country would invest in this renewable source of energy, the

government must analyse and plan about the distributions of energy

that will be accumulated. There is also a need to invest in upgrading of

systems and equipment in order to cope up with the new source. The
location shall also be prepared. The government shall also formulate a

law regarding the project.

Glossary:

Biophysicist – A person who studies chemical and physical principles

of living things and of biological processes, such as cell development,

growth, heredity, and disease.

 Ozgur Sahin, a Biophysicist is the first person to develop the

evaporation engine.

Disrupted – Interrupt by causing a disturbance or problem.

 Engineers are being disrupted by a number of different

technologies.

Evaporation – A type of vaporization that occurs on the surface of a

liquid as it changes into the gas phase.

 The higher the temperature, the higher the evaporation.

Freshwater – Any naturally occurring water except seawater and

brackish water.
 Improper solid waste management affects our sources of fresh

water.

Generator – It is a device that converts motive power into electrical

power.

 Generators are installed in turbines and pumps for the device to

be effective.

Harness – Control and make use of (natural resources), especially to

produce energy.

 Through windmills, we can harness energy for the consumption

of our town for the year.

Humid – Marked by a relatively high level of water vapour in the

atmosphere.

 The lower the humidity, the more evaporation.

Reservoirs – A large natural or artificial lake used as a source of water

supply.

 Three reservoirs A, B and C are connected respectively, find the

head lost.

Shutters – Each of a pair of hinged panels, often louvered.

 The shutter prevents the light or heat in entering the laboratory.

Spores – A unit of sexual or asexual reproduction that may be adapted

for dispersal and for survival, often for extended periods of time, in

unfavourable conditions.

 The spores attached to tiny plastic strips expand and contract

depending on the temperature.
