J. R. R.

Tolkien

I wanted to write about Tolkien because his masterpiece, Lord of the Rings, let’s say is
one of my favorite books. Tolkien and J.K. Rowling have built 2 universes which dominated my
entire teenhood.
Tolkien was an English writer, born on 3 rd January in South Africa and is known for the
classic fantasy writings Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. His mother started to teach him Latin
at an early age, it was one of his favorite lessons. He was a fast learner child and by the age of 4
he already knew how to read. In 1911 Tolkien began studying English language and literature
at Exeter College, Oxford. After 4 years, in 1915 he graduated with  first-class honours.
Tolkien married to Edith Bratt and Ronald Tolkien at St. Mary Immaculate Roman
Catholic Church, Warwick in 1916 and they had 4 children.
Most of the people know the above 2 writings but only a few know that he had a such a
great imagination that he had built an entire world which emerged into this 2. What is the most
interesting thing is that the Lord of the Rings, published in 1954–1955, can be a freestanding
epic novel, but as a matter of fact is just another part of his mythopoeic collection, same as The
Hobbit. In reality, the story line from The Hobbit precede the story line from The Lord of the
Rings.
Tolkien started to create his mythical world with its own language after he got injured in
the WWI. His wife inspired him; she was the source of the story Silmarillion, a volume
published posthumous by his son, Christopher. He was the one who organized his father’s
materials into a single coherent work. Later, his son published more materials where he compiled
from his father’s other stories and other unpublished manuscripts.
Tolkien died in 1973 and was buried in Wolvercote Cemetery, Oxford in the same grave
with his wife, Edith. Next to their names on the grave stone were added another 2 names:
Luthien and Beren, the fictional characters from his fantasy world, an immortal elf fell in love
with a mortal warrior.
