It was built by the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, London, UK, in ‘Gothic Revival’ style of architecture. The BMC has placed the building in Grade 2A of Heritage structures. This magnificent church had its humble origins as the Colaba Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in May 1887 on the ground floor of a nearby building, with Rev. Clutterbuck as the first Presbyter. The foundation stone of the renamed Wesleyan Methodist Military and Naval Church, at the present location, was laid in March 1890 and the church commenced its mission 5 years later in 1895.
