WESLEY CHURCH CNI

Wesley Church CNI is located near the Electric
House at a vantage point on Colaba Causeway. It
was built by the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary
Society, London, UK, in ‘Gothic Revival’ style of
architecture. The BMC has placed the building in
Grade 2A of Heritage structures. This magnificent
church had its humble origins as the Colaba
Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in May 1887 on the
ground floor of a nearby building, with Rev.
Clutterbuck as the first Presbyter.
The foundation stone of the renamed Wesleyan
Methodist Military and Naval Church, at the
present location, was laid in March 1890 and the
church commenced its mission 5 years later in
1895. The church and its associates joined the CNI
in 1970.
