Tech Guide: TCP/IP Communication
Introduction
This technical guide will provide instructions on how to configure a Z-Series indicator for TCP/IP
communication using the Ethernet port. This example will show how to setup a Server
connection and create a protocol for sending displayed weight over the Ethernet connection
when the PRINT button is pressed.

Procedure – Ethernet Server Connection
In this example we will use E-Net Conn No 1 and Port 23 (Telnet port)
1. Press and hold F1 until PASS is displayed…release F1 > 0 is displayed
2. Enter 3 0 8 8 and press ZERO > BUSY is displayed and then SETUP
3. Press SELECT > CALIB is displayed
4. Press UNITS until PORTS is displayed
5. Press SELECT > SERIAL is displayed
6. Press UNITS > E-NET is displayed
7. Press SELECT > IP ADDR Is displayed. No changes are needed to use the default IP
8. Press UNITS until DHCP is displayed
9. Press SELECT and set to OFF
10. Press ZERO > DHCP is displayed
11. Press UNITS > CONN.NO is displayed
12. Press SELECT > E-NET 1 is displayed
13. Press SELECT > PORT 1 is displayed
14. Press SELECT and then enter 2 3 and press ZERO > PORT 1 is displayed
15. Press UNITS > TYPE 1 is displayed
16. Press SELECT and then UNITS until SERVER is displayed

Protocol Setup
For this example we will use Protocol 2 and Print Format 5 for displayed weight output
1. From E-NET press UNITS > PROTCL is displayed
2. Press SELECT > PROT 1 is displayed
3. Press UNITS > PROT 2 is displayed
4. Press SELECT > TYPE 2 is displayed
5. Press SELECT and then UNITS until PRINT is displayed
6. Press ZERO > TYPE 2 is displayed
7. Press UNITS > BIND 2 is displayed
8. Press SELECT and then UNITS until ENET 1 is displayed
9. Press ZERO > BIND 2 is displayed
10. Press UNITS > ATTR 2 is displayed
11. Press SELECT > PRNFT is displayed
12. Press SELECT and then enter 5 and press ZERO > PRNFT is displayed
13. Press TARE until SAVE NO is displayed
14. Press UNITS > SAVEYES is displayed
15. Press ZERO > BUSY is displayed. The indicator will reboot and return to normal operation
Use HyperTerminal or Hercules (or any TCP Client terminal program) and test the
configuration
