Colombia has high degrees of racial inequality and discrimination towards afro-colombian,
indigenous, and rural populations. Despite constitutional measures and laws protecting their
rights, nowadays this problem continues to exist. The social leaders in Colombia are the principal
actors in the protection of vulnerable or marginalized populations, however, these people
continue fighting to reach equality in all aspects of life. Although Colombia was declared a
multicultural and multi-ethnical country in the 1991 national constitution, it has still a lot of
discrimination towards, indigenous, afro Colombian, and rural populations.
