LESSON PLAN

Teacher Candidate(s): Course

:
Aysenur Denizli Mathematics
Stage 1 Desired Results
Topic: Concept:
How to Find the Slope of a Line Algebra 1
Subject: Mathematics Grade: 9
Timeline: Two 50-minute periods Date: April 20, 2020
Texas State Standards:
write linear equations in two variables in various forms, including y = mx + b, Ax + By = C, and y
- y1= m(x - x1),
given one point and the slope and given two points
Primary Objective(s):
I want students to learn what is slope and how can we find it.

Pre-requisites:
First of all, they need to know what a point is in x and y coordinate system to be able to find the
slope. And they need to know what a line is.

Possible Misconceptions:
As teachers, we need to be careful about negative slopes and positive slopes. This is where students
always make mistakes even though they understand the topic so well.

Materials and Equipment:

Computers, board, exercise sheets

Stage 2 Assessment Evidence

1. Pre-Assessment:

2. Post-assessment:
I will give few problems to understand if they understood the topic

Stage 3 Content Development

1. Introduction of Content: First I am going to give an example of a mountain which is steep, then
describe the slope. But they already know what slope is from the previous grades. So, this would be
just a reminder for them. Then draw two lines to show them what is slope and how we find it.

2. Practice—guided or independent: I would group them for this class. I would give every group an
exercise sheet, and one student would come up to the board and show us how he/she solved the
question from each group

.
3. Closure: Since they are high school students, I would not prefer to give them journals, but I would
ask if there is anything they want to share what they’ve learned from this class.

Stage 4 Extensions and Assistance

1. Extensions/Enrichment:
I would give them GeoGebra activities to solve at home.

2. Technology Integration: Yeah, at the end of the group work, if we have more time I would like to
show them GeoGebra to check their answers if it is wrong or right.
