Specifics: Units using Donaldson TTD self cleaning air filters
—REVISION NOTICE—
This Service Bulletin identifies a revised replacement procedure
and inserts pictures that identify filter element damage. Revision
A supersedes Service Bulletin 11.1/104, same subject, which may
be discarded.
Purpose:
This Service Bulletin provides necessary information on the life span and replacement of air filter
elements P/N 951339C1
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Donaldson TTD self cleaning air filter system was initially installed on Solar Turbine engines
in 1977. It has been Donaldson’s prime design characteristic that the TTD in turbine applications
provide high level air filtration for a period of 18 months to 2 years without maintenance This fact
has been confirmed on 200 Solar Turbine applications.
ACTION REQUIRED:
It is thus recommended that filter elements which have been in operation for 2 years or more be
sample inspected for pin holes, pleat splits, leaks and general deterioration. This inspection should
be done by "candling" or examining the filter media closely in a dark room with a bright light
inside the filter element (see figure 6) About 6 to 12 elements should be inspected every 6 months
thereafter. Replacement of all elements should be initiated at the first sign of pinholes, splits or
deterioration (see figure 7). It is recommended that the filter elements not be continued in service
beyond 4 Years .
PARTS REQUIRED
New elements can be ordered directly from Solar or Donaldson Company.
NOTE
Number of elements may vary from the typical Qty according to customer
application.
