Message from the Vice Chancellor

Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth

Vice Chancellor
Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad
The April issue of quarterly newsletter ‘Sarthak’ comes out with many milestones achieved by GTU. We all
have seen many drastic changes in the first quarter of 2020. For GTU, the year 2020 started on a very
positive note of organizing 9th annual convocation at Mahatma Mandir in the presence of Shri Amit Shah,
Hon’ble Home minister of India. His gracious presence motivated thousands of students. I also got
opportunity to welcome Donald Trump, Hon’ble President of USA and founder of this university Shri
Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India during their Ahmedabad visit in the month of February 2020.
I am delighted to share that GTU received ‘Most Promising University of India 2020 Award’ and ‘Most
Promising Vice Chancellor of the year 2020 Award’ by Integrated Chambers of Commerce and Industry
(ICCI) which indeed motivated me to continue the best practices of the university and to introduce innovative
solutions for addressing issues of common man. Mega Placement camp witnessed huge success. Republic
Day Celebration, Sankul Day Celebration, Women Day Celebration, National Level Awareness Programme
on MSME, GTU NSS Award Ceremony, Lecture Series by eminent speakers, GTU Sports Fest and various
Faculty Development Programmes were successfully organized during January – March 2020 by different
departments of the university. Ironically March end saw the lockdown period due to Covid -19 pandemic and
all affiliated institutes were immediately closed for safety of our students and teachers. As an international
innovative university, GTU adopted digital platform to save the academic loss of students and started
conducting online classes and webinars.

I urge all of you to remain safe at home and wish you healthy life.
