My PMP Journey
JOURNEY
When I talk about my PMP journey
two age old proverbs come in my
mind: - “There is not short cut to
success” and very important one
“God helps those who helps
themselves”. You may take guidance
from best faculty in the world, at the
end of the day it’s you who need to
execute.
Education is like religion which can
unite the world irrespective of caste,
creed, language, location. Interacted
and followed many big hearted
enthusiastic co-learners and experts
around the globe which not enriched
my learning and also made me a
better human being. Lived and
breathed with the Holy book -:
PMBOK® Guide SIXTH EDITION for
last six months. Solved short mock-
exam questions throughout my
journey which enabled me to fill my
knowledge gap. Read Rita Mulchey
for Procurement, Quality, Risk,
Resource KAs. Watched and followed
videos/ blogs/articles, FB and
WhatsApp group questions and
lectures of Oliver Lehmann,
Cornelius Fichtner, Joseph Philips,
Sayed Moshan, Wagdy Azzam, Ashok
Nadagoud, Abdullah Khan, ExcelR
Solutions and many others.
Decision Day: - In week 1 of Jan
2019, I realized I can remember 5-
10-49(Process Group- KA-
Processes] naturally without
memorizing, I took a call and booked
the Exam date: - 19-feb-2019.
Week Before Exam: - Eng Sayed
Moshan has a study plan which I
feel everyone should use
irrespective of course or training
they take. He was very kind to help
me, though I was unable to follow all
his lessons, as I had a hectic week
due to some personal challenges.
Day before exam: - You need rest,
giving a 4 hour complex exam, in the
very next day is not easy, though I
didn’t take much rest as I couldn’t
study much in previous days of
week. Please don’t follow what I did.
Exam day: - Wake up with a
positive mind . Take a bath and go
for the kill. Always try to keep exam
in early morning hours, as I did, it’s
the time where our brain remains
fresh. Reach Prometric center at
least 30 min earlier.

Mocks: -
➢ ExcelR KA wise mock
➢ Mock Exam set of Eng Sayad Mohshan(available in
Udemy)- I got 10-12 questions which came in real exam .
➢ Prepcast mock :- Did few mocks. Very detailed and
informative. Don’t expect to score 80% in all test.
Undoubtedly, one of the best in the market.
LESSONS LEARNED AND BEST PRACTICE ADVISE
Study Plan- Study plan is very important with proper
synchronization.
I mostly concentrated on PMBOK6, my advice is same for all
aspirants. Initially you may feel it too dry, gradually after 1-2 weeks
started getting adjusted to it. You must know how processes are
flowing across Knowledge Areas throughout the project Life Cycle.
Read all the Project documents and note down its reference across
KA’s and processes. When you are successful in doing this, I should
say, you are confident for the real exam.
Thoroughly read Project Integration Management from PMBOK (word
by word, line by line. You can expect up to 30-35 questions related
to Change
Note down all important Data gathering, Decision Analysis, Decision
Making, Data representation tools and check its uses and occurrence
during project LC.
Pay special attention to all subsidiary plans. Communication
Management Plan is most important among all. Expect 10-15
question in relation to this.
Avoid Study gap. I had a gap of 1 month during October. In Nov-18
when I started studying again, I felt I have to start from beginning.
Mock :- Mocks for me is like M/C phase of PMP preparation . Learn
the mistakes you have made while answering questions and fill your
knowledge gap. I have solved close to 4000 questions, though I

options. There is twist and trick in
every line including the answer
option. Take break when you feel
your concentration is getting lapsed,
though break involves another round
of security check, but it takes only 2-
3 min. Remember, most of the
question touches multiple KAs that’s
why ITTO knowledge flow is so
important for success.

never maintained real count.
There is myth across market, don’t go for exam until you score 80%,
I partially agree to this. All mocks are not same. Getting 80% plus in
first attempt in quality mocks like Prepcast and RMC is never easy.
Beauty of using prepcast is you get detailed statistics of your result
which is not available in all mocks. Be careful in selecting proper
mock, still many mocks do have PMBOK 5 related question, which is
not applicable to us.
I am lucky to be part of few good whatsapp groups where
exceptional standards of questions and knowledge are shared.
GRATITUDE
So many people helped me. Gosh not sure I remember all names.
● Family: - You always need mental support to achieve PMP
certification. My family(especially my Father in law) helped,
encouraged and tolerated me in last 6-7 months as I was
living and breathing in PMBOK 6, other than scheduled office
hours.
● Current Organization Boss: - I can proudly say I am not
blessed with a boss, I am blessed with a mentor who is also
my boss. I am thankful to Arun CR for all his empathy and
support.
● Coach – Will remain always grateful to Wagdy Azzam ,
Eng Sayed Mohshan, Abdullah Khan, Jose Morales
Brunet, Ashok Nandagoud,Rajesh Shah ,Lizan Hassan
who helped me in my journey. Lizan Hassan introduced me
to variety of WhatsApp group which is one of the reason of
my success in PMP exam. She is very knowledgeable and
helping many aspirants round the globe.
● Friends: - One of my best friends – Sandeep Sudheer who
is also my colleague, once asked me “Can you try to do
something which is difficult, challenging and different from
your core basic ability”. It knocked my mind and I decided to
do PMP. He inspired me almost every day, this is what true
friend is.
I am also grateful to all the members of PM Aspirant WhatsApp
group of Mr. Khan. Special thanks to Anindya
Chakraborty, one of the very knowledgeable Aspirant I
have ever met. Also I am thankful to Shri, Ravi (from PM
Aspirant group who predicted my result before), Naveen
Agarwal, my team players from my current organization.
