Inspire • Encourage • Act –
Mutig machen
It’s time to get to grips with the big issues. Far-reaching political and social change on both
national and international level combined with the dynamic pace of technological develop-
ment call for committed action, courage and mutual inspiration.
Supply chainers are “business makers”. They know how important it is to adopt a positive
attitude, whatever the challenge. It is this that attitude that underlines our theme for the
year. “Inspire • Encourage • Act” calls on us to address the challenges in industry, politics and
society calmly and courageously, to implement promising ideas – rather than complaining
that everything’s just too difficult.
At the same time, we need to encourage and empower people to tackle the key issues, to
become involved, to explore uncharted or new territory, to take calculated risks and to roll up
their sleeves. The logistics sector successfully performs an extremely wide range of tasks every
day and communicates these activities both within companies as well as vis-à-vis political
decision-makers and society at large.
Robert Blackburn
Chairman of the Board,
The International Supply Chain Conference 2019 offers opportunities for the international Bundesvereinigung Logistik,
Senior Vice President Global Supply Management,
exchange of knowledge and experience. It showcases innovations and brings together Stanley Black & Decker,
experts from the worlds of industry and academia. And it provides the ideal forum for you New Britain, Connecticut, USA
to benefit from further training and networking options, as well as to build on existing and
establish new business contacts.
Even in the era of digitalisation, it is still people who interact with each other in person who
develop creative answers to today’s challenges and tomorrow’s trends – and who inspire and
encourage others by doing so. So let yourself also be inspired, share your expertise and take
new ideas back with you to your company. We look forward to meeting you in Berlin.

Erick Yong What Kind of Logistics Will Unlock the Economic Development
Chief Executive Officer, of the African Continent?
GreenTec Capital GmbH,
Frankfurt Logistics in Africa is frequently analysed from an external perspective and therefore
often perceived as totally inefficient. From an internal perspective, however, the
development of logistics is in fact in tune with the rhythm of the continent. There is a
rise in middle class spending capacity in an increasingly digital environment, and this
is paving the way for new business models. The African continent definitely benefits
from the experiences, perspectives and technology of developed countries, but
customisation is needed to achieve efficiency – and this is something that has to
come from within Africa.

Companies need to innovate their supply chains to catch-up or to outpace the competition. Collaborating with start-ups can help to accelerate inno-

start-up innovations across large companies and beyond?
