It’s time to get to grips with the big issues. Far-reaching political and social change on both
national and international level combined with the dynamic pace of technological develop-
ment call for committed action, courage and mutual inspiration.
Supply chainers are “business makers”. They know how important it is to adopt a positive
attitude, whatever the challenge. It is this that attitude that underlines our theme for the
year. “Inspire • Encourage • Act” calls on us to address the challenges in industry, politics and
society calmly and courageously, to implement promising ideas – rather than complaining
that everything’s just too difficult.
At the same time, we need to encourage and empower people to tackle the key issues, to
become involved, to explore uncharted or new territory, to take calculated risks and to roll up
their sleeves. The logistics sector successfully performs an extremely wide range of tasks every
day and communicates these activities both within companies as well as vis-à-vis political
decision-makers and society at large.

GALA EVENING
The Arena in the Treptow district of Berlin was a courageous con-

struction project. Built in 1927 as a bus terminal, the building complex
was at the time the largest self-supporting hall in Europe. Following
the division of Berlin, the monumental building stood in the eastern
shadow of the Berlin Wall, where it was no longer freely accessible but
still used as a bus depot.
Playing for us on this special evening will be “MEN IN BLECH”, possibly

the only brass ensemble in the world that doesn’t just play music but
also performs dance routines. The band is known from its TV appear-
ances as well as the movie “Meat Is My Vegetables”. No less fascinat-
ing is pianist Maximilian Kraft on his glass grand piano with a reper-
toire ranging from classical to jazz and pop. Isabella Rosselini, Morgan
Freeman and Michael Douglas all wax lyrical about his artistic style. As
night-time approaches, the three vocalists and six musicians who go
by the name of “Nightshift” will make for a live concert atmosphere.
Enjoy a wonderful evening with good conversations, culinary delights,

music and dance – and feel encouraged to produce your personal

With its 30,000 m² supply centre, the BMW motorbike plant in Berlin-Spandau has
set new standards in the field of motorcycle production. On the eastern section of the
site stands a towering, modern 40-metre high-bay warehouse – from where person-
nel plan and control the logistics processes to make sure that all parts are supplied
directly to the downstream production halls just-in-time and just-in sequence. Over
2,000 employees at the plant ensure that up to 800 premium motorcycles leave the
factory every day. Around 80 percent of the bikes are exported to more than 130 coun-
tries worldwide.
