 Gums that may be used as alternative to acacia are tragacanth, karaya, and ghatti.

2. Give official preparation where acacia mucilage is used as emulsifying agent.

 Acacia mucilage is used as an emulsifying agent in the preparation of cod liver
oil.

3. Give examples of synthetic mucilage like substances which can be used as substitute for
mucilage.
 As substitute for mucilages several synthetic mucilage-like substances such
polyvinyl alcohol, methycellulose, carboxymethylcellulose may be used.
