Movie Review about Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story

Cuba Gooding Jr. stars in Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, a true story about a youthful African-American kid
who longs for being a specialist. As a young man, Ben lives with his more established sibling and single parent and
battles as the main dark understudy in an all-white class. His evaluations are repulsive and as different children
bother him, he builds up a seething temper and begins to carry on. It is his confidence in God and the steady
inspiration of his mom that gets him to at long last advance up—just as some perusing glasses.

Having his eyes opened—in more ways than one—Ben starts to exceed expectations in school after his mom
provokes him and his sibling to peruse two books per month and turn in book reports to her. Obviously, he
complies with his mom and begins to peruse. Furthermore, as he starts to drench himself in writing, music, and
expressions of the human experience his evaluations improve thus does his character.

As Catholics this is something that we can—or should—identify with. The Catholic Church has dependably been a
noteworthy advocate of culture, rousing probably the best workmanship, music, and books ever. This is apparent
in the vainglorious houses of God, marble statues, and medieval artistic creations. Think of the Sistine Chapel. It is
heard in Bach’s Mattheus Passion and the Ave Maria. While many people think that religion, especially the Catholic
faith, binds people by a bunch of rules and keeps them from doing what they want to do. Our culture is important
and the Church calls us not to hide from it, but rather to immerse ourselves in it, enjoy it, and evangelize it.

One more of the positive subjects depicted in the film is significance of good child rearing. Ben's mom battles with
a profound melancholy—or "haziness" as she calls it—yet she never abandons her young men. She battles for
them, buckling down, pushing them to be as well as can be expected be. Furthermore, it satisfies.

Ben eventually becomes a doctor, more specifically, a brain surgeon. The greatest challenge that Ben faces as a
specialist is to have the option to separate a set of siamese twins who are joined at the head. All through the film
he fights with thoughts scanning for an approach to play out this risky medical procedure that puts the lives of the
two newborn children in genuine threat.

There is a scene in the film—which is most likely one of my top pick—when Ben is counseling with the guardians of
the twins and he coolly makes reference to that he will ask that everything goes well in the medical procedure. The
mother goes to him with an astonished look all over and asks him, "you pray?" He affirms with a straightforward
reaction, "every day."

In our way of life, specialists have taken on a negative generalization of being chilly, relentless, and against
confidence. You are either for science or for religion. Be that as it may, for Ben's situation, he demonstrates a
definitive truth which the Catholic Church has instructed for quite a long time, that confidence and science are not
foes.

Truth be told, Ben recognizes that it is his confidence that enables him to be fruitful at what he does. He concedes
that the human cerebrum is an astounding creation that we will always be unable to completely get it.

Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story is a feel-good movie that you can watch with the family. There are many
positive themes touched on in the film that you can share with your children and even benefit from yourself. All in
all, it’s an inspirational true story that shows that any obstacle can be overcome with hard work and dedication.

The Effects of Media to the Filipino Youth

Social media has become an essential part for today’s younger generation. Social media
websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. It has given us a bigger impact in our life, more
than others. But does this impact a good one or a bad one?

It has been observed by our parents that Media gives a negative impact to our life. One
thing that makes media a negative impact to our life is laziness. When we scroll down to
facebook, twitter, and other social media apps that entertains our boredom and there is
something that our parents commanded us to do, we tend to choose social media over parents.
Another thing is when we try to do our homework and study, we can’t study and do our
homework because the top priority of most filipino youths are their social media, not their
studies and academics. These negative impacts made our lives harder, since media is a barrier
for us not to work.

Even though there are negative impacts of media to us, there are also positive impacts
that can help the filipino youths. It has given us multiple benefits to our lives and helped us in
terms of our studies and academics. If we, the filipino youths, has given an opportunity to learn
and understand the means and processes of media, we wouldn’t have media as a negative
impact on our lives. As long as we are responsible and careful in using media, there is nothing
to worry about the negative impacts of media to us.

The Media Master

From dusk until dawn, smartphones are around us. "Filipino youth today are more the
products of mass media rather than their genes or school, or least of all, their homes.”, said by
the Global Media Journal. They are our way of life. Numerous teenagers spend nights without
sleep using social media which negatively impacts their health and performance in school.

Media violence influence has also been increasing in trend and may influence teens that
are vulnerable to it. It is undeniable that media has been continuously shaping our lives as
young individuals. Filipino teenagers tend to engage in different forms of media without
thinking the possible effects of it to their lives. Media has caused the youth to be more anti-
social because they are always glued to their phone, affects their physical activities and lessens
the time they spend with their family.

While media may have these numerous negative effects to Filipino teenagers, it can also
provide us with multiple benefits. The right use of media depends on how responsible, aware,
and well informed we are. If Filipino teenagers are to be given proper education on the fair use
of media, this could lessen the effects brought by it. Know how to be the master of media, and
you may live a life worth living.

Movie Review about Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story

This movie talks about the story of a black child who was raised by a single mother in a community that
doesn't fully accept them. His mother has always encouraged him and his brother to work hard and use
their God-given gifts. He grows up from being one of the lowest ranked students to top of his class. He
worked really hard to achieve what he is today: a world-famous neurosurgeon.

I think every student could relate to young Ben Carson. He didn't believe in himself. He thought that he
was stupid, so he didn't even bother to try. A lot of students are like young Ben. They don't even bother
to try anymore. That's what made the movie so inspirational. His mother believed in him and insisted
that him and his brother weren't stupid. She motivated them to work harder but I didn't like the fact
that she hid her incapability to read from her sons. She insisted working on it alone. Ben looked pass all
the hindrances and found a way around them. At the end of the year despite being best in his class, I
hated the fact that he was frowned upon, just because he was a "man of color".

As started growing up, he has trouble adjusting to the new environment. He started to take a wrong
turn in life, which is pretty common amongst teenagers. He even almost hurt his mom and his friend.
Which I thought was a really terrifying thing. He started getting in trouble but despite that, he managed
to get back up his feet and back on track. The scene then switched, showing the struggles of a college
student. He thought he couldn't do it and started to doubt if being a neurosurgeon was really right for
him. I think every college student could relate to that. As our road becomes more difficult, we start to
doubt whether or not this was really right for us. But it's just God testing us. He wants to know how
dedicated we are. So just like ben, we shouldn't give up on our dreams easily.

As Ben graduated, he did his best to achieve his dream job. And when he did, racism was still present.
But despite that, he managed to prove himself to them. I loved the fact that ever since he started doing
surgeries, people respected and depended on him. In the toughest of surgeries, they believed in him.
Though it was a struggle for Ben to operate such difficult patients, he never gave up on them. He tried
his best despite the personal problems he was facing.

I thought that the movie was very inspirational. It captured the hearts of many people. It gave me the
push I needed to work hard for my dreams because I'm able to. It helped me believe that no matter how
much we stumble; God will always be there to help pick us up as long as we're willing. I truly believe that
there's no other movie like this. It was very relatable despite the difference in situations, and it made me
love it more. No film has ever moved me the same way as this one did.

Movie Review about Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story

The movie clearly reflects a lot of current events and issues. A lot of individuals today are lost
on the wilderness of their own minds and temptations. The movie presents itself in a manner
capable of adversely inspiring the youth viewers of today and tomorrow. This style of film
making is the director's great way of engaging himself, the movie, and the audience in a bigger
conversation. There are numerous ways that the movie relates itself to the "real" world.

The story of the film states that individuals like us should see far more beyond the horizon in
order to fully understand our current situation and our future, which seems to be the message
of the film and it also attempts to achieve a sense of inspiration from the audience - a specific
response or emotion expected from the viewers. The movie achieves its own goals through the
excellency of Dr. Ben Carson to write his story with humility knowing that he is a world-
renowned doctor.

The film connects with me and you on a personal level. We have all experienced self-doubt,
temptations, and unsatisfaction somewhere in our lives. However, the story progresses
positively as the young man pursues to achieve his goals by utilizing his resources and his
unique ability to imagine three dimensionally. The movie stems from our own feelings and
weave in our minds some personal memories that make it interesting for us viewers.

The storyline begins with a young man named Ben Carson being raised by a secretly illiterate
single mother. His struggles in elementary and high school education only made him stronger as
a whole. The movie then states his experiences and journey on his way to Yale University and
finally to Johns Hopkins hospital where Dr. Ben Carson worked. He is now a retired faculty as a
neuro surgeon known for his delicate operations in separating conjoined twins. For me, the
best part about the movie is its ability to inspire and light the way for others with dimmed paths
of life.
