Giving lectures to a large number of students in auditorium has become an old way of teaching, with

technology available today, there is no justification for it, and everything should be done online.to what
extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that conventional method of delivering a lecture to a large number of

students has become obsolete (is outdated) and that instead, all educational
activities be carried online. In my opinion, while internet can be useful in some
cases, attending lectures in classrooms will always have its place in education.
Learning via computer may be convenient in some cases. Some disable people, for
example those without legs, face great difficulty in reaching the lecture hall to
attend lectures. Studying from home online may be the best option for them.
Moreover, through distance-learning it has been possible to study along with
working. People can watch a recorded lecture, take quizzes at whatever time they
are free so, they can complete a course at their own pace at the same time doing
some job.
However, despite its usefulness doing educational activities exclusively online may
not suffice the learning process, and there will always be a need for traditional
methods of teaching. For one leaning presenting lecture solely online also presents
the problem of students not being motivated to watch them. It would be hard for
the teachers to know who actually viewed the lecture. Consequently, many students
might not take online classes because there is no attendance resulting in poor exam
performance. Another reason for classroom lectures is that students have the
opportunity to develop certain other important skills in addition to learning the
academic subjects. For example, while interacting with colleagues and teachers
students may improve their communication skills. Such skills are vital for the
students in their future career. Finally, classrooms offer a leaning environment
where the focus is purely on a particular subject and all students listen and takes
notes. This will encourage lazy students to work hard.
In conclusion, while internet can be a useful tool in education, exclusively online
lectures are a bad idea because they can lead to a drop-off in student attendance
and they do not allow students to develop skills important for their success.
