Essay: Ms. Villablanca, mother of two, visit your clinic and ask about different Family Planning
Method. Being a trained midwife on family planning, what are you going to do? (10 points)
Family planning counseling is like any other health care service, as trained midwife; it’s only
professional to convey a quality of care by safeguarding her rights and gaining the client’s trust and
building rapport to establish a safe space for the client to dispel concerns and freely speak up her
mind which allows misconception or myths to be corrected and clarified. Understanding the needs of
the client serves as sliver inning in making informed decisions about the safest and most suitable
method that meets those needs and relevant circumstances.
First thing first, discussing the client’s needs and situation; and try to fathom her perception about
family planning and what elements she thinks is important when choosing a method. Now to ensure
informed and voluntary decision, it’s exponentially essential to discuss the different methods of
family planning; from the effectiveness of the method, advantages and disadvantages, to side
effects and complications and assist her to determine which method is exactly the most suitable
depending on her needs and of course her medical eligibility or past medical history.
In case of disclosing any misconception about any method or the suggested method, proper
explanation is delivered. After selecting the method based on her choice, and declaring that she is
not under any of the contraindicated instances, instructions on how to properly use the method and
how to efficiently handle side effects. Lastly, provide the method after signing the informed consent
with scheduled follow-up visit.
